Brake Pads/ECU resetting

Hey all,

Two rather simple questions for you lot.

My ex's sisters got a 1.2 late 2005 clio...obviously.

Anyway shes just been quoted £140 to change the front brake pads. (bloody hell!!)

Anyway i said i would do it for her, £15.99 for the pads.

So the question is will it effect her warranty, as shes not sure and i dont have a clue, as its a part that needs changing a fair bit does it come under warranty, apparently someone told her if its not covered in her warranty then it wont effect the rest of the cars warranty.

Seems pretty stupid paying £140 quid to me.

Never having done the pads such a modern car if i do them anything i need to know or is it as straight forward as it should be? Or am i in for something a little different?

Also resetting the ECU, ive never been sure if this works or if its just aload of bull... i thought the ECU was there to change and adapt settings so resetting it wouldnt make any difference?

Anyway she says her car doesnt run as smooth as a mate of hers, so it got mentioned by some lad.

Is it actually worth doing, ive made her find her radio code... so i dont see a problem. Simply just disconnect the battery for a good half a day and re connect it?

Ive read on here abit ago using the key fob to open/lock the doors a few times? Is this true or rubbish

Many thanks in advance! :)

If the work is not done by a VAT registered garage using genuine Renault Parts it will affect the warranty for everything related to the breaks that they can find any possible way of blaiming it on that. So I would ask a local garage for a price aswell.

Resetting the ECU in the manner u mentioned is bolloxs, if her car isnt running smooth it probably needs a service

just change the brakes yourself, aint much going to happen to the brakes that a warranty will cover anyways

Nope no affect on warently doing your brake pads yourself.

Nothing to watch out for I'd bleed the fluid though all round when doing pads personally.

Resttting the ECU forget ti sounds like the car has other problems the 1.2 has a load of issues what is exactly wrong problems usually come from dirty throttle body (bad ilde gives this away) coils faulty which gives bad running dirty spark plugs which give bad running more so at high RPM.

That opening the doors etc is for syncronicing of keys its a phase 1 issue not phase 2.

thats people and edde....

edde... how are you so sure it wont effect the warranty? from what the other people say a dealership could blame failure on dust, although never having a car fitted with ABS ever i wouldnt know if the sensors will pack up with dust.

Sensors can pack up anway mine never have and I've never cleaned the sensor (chnaged pads err about 6 times) they shouldn't ever have problems with the 1mm gapping they have. The sensors can fail normally but pad changing has nothing to do with it.

£140 is the worst I've ever heard £90 is more normal.
