brake pads rattling...

  1998 BMW e46 323i
fitted some ferodo pads on the front a while back, shortly after there was a bad creak and click coming from the caliper area. I sorted it by copper slipping it and removed the backing from the pads. Now they rattle. Can i put something on the back of the pads to stop them rattling or should i just buy new pads?

did you have them on the right way round and the right side?

did you clean up the silver clip type things which sit inside the caliper and the edges of the pads touch on?

did you copper grease the edge of the pads?

did you clean the disk with brake cleaner?

Went to Kwik Fit this morning, the bloke there was a right patronising c**t, but put my car on the lift, took the caliper off and immediately saw I'd left a spring off my pad! D'oh!!!!

He tried to flog me some unipart pads for £70, or said put up with the rattle. I asked if he had any springs lying round... NO was the answer.

So I went to my favourite scrappy and managed to borrow some of his tools and remove some springs off a Mitsubishi's rear pads. Fitted them just, and the rattle has gone. Hurrah.

A fool and his money are soon parted.
