Brake pads

Can anyone tell me:

a) Depth of original oem brakepads
b) what the minimum depth should be before changing (front & rear)
c) what are good aftermarket road/race pads(mintex anygood?)
d) where is best place to source these from?

thanks

like brun says dont get proper race pads as they need to be hot before they work.they wont get up to sufficient tempurature under normal road use.rear pads are very thin to start with on 172s so dont get confused into thinking they want changing scribbler.

I just had them changed @ your gaff and have the old ones, im a little pissed off to find that there is 5mm left on them all and they were waring evenly! Seems they saw my missis coming. I think i will be changing them in future. And a letter is going off to renault hq again with some photos this time. Its pissing me off that i have to keep checking up on people, i thought lambies were ok but this is doing my head in. They didnt change the air filter either and its in the manual @ 12,000 for 172.

I intend to put mintex on the front as i have heard these are good.
Just wanted to know were to get them from or if there are better ones.

I do one or two trackdays a year nurberg / brandshatch etc its for then really!

Does the V6 use different brake callipers/discs is it worth getting these?

you have to take into consideration that if the technician doesnt feel the pads will make the next service then they will suggest changing them.this is like a disclaimer to stop people coming back when there pads are worn out in between services and asking why they werent picked up on the last service.v6 discs are different.

Take it back! i am and getting the rest of the damage they done fixed a the same time FOC. Im taking it in myself this time so one word out of place and Matt will be requiring rehabilitation for sometime. I hoped all this could be sorted out before i got involved but now its a personal challenge and i never back down.

my mate just got Brembo 4 pot conversion for his 106 gti for 650 is that ne good?? think it is!!

Scribbler: they are for a dci and i got them from my local autoparts!!

What are the greenstuff pads like? bear in mind i only have a 1.2, so not breaking from any great speeds, 70 / 80 tops in normal day to day driving

Lookers Macclesfield didnt change my air filter at 12K. I made them bring it round to the house and fit it :). I also claimed £35 back off them after I found they had left the oil filler cap off and let oil bubble out all over the place ...

I ran Mintex M1144s in my 106 GTi for nearly 2 years and they were super for both road and track!

agree, 1144 are an old formula but do still work quite well.

There are more advanced pads on the market now but you do get what you pay for.

whats the more advanced pads ben?

i still run 1144s, why change something when it works so well :D

N.B. why change summin when it works so well and costs under a tenner all round

they are cheap because the formula is old, its pretty good but does have tis downfalls compared to modern cerrametallic or carbon based items.

Pagid, PF are good but cost a fortune and the need for such a pad isnt warrented by the cost.....unless you really really want excellent pads for no reason.

what damage did they do?

The interior handle over passenger door was hanging out, all be it a small problem (screw missing ). And the very tips of the bonnet either corner near to the windowscrean touch the black plastic water tray when you raise the bonnet to high, all the paint has worn off down past the primer to the bare metal. I have told them about the problem on the main desk but every time it comes in for work a bit more paint is chipped off. Its a renault design fault not lambies but a little care on your lads part to not raise the bonnet to high and put it on the catch would eleviate the problem. Anyway i expect it touching up. I dont think this is to much to ask. Its coming in today anyway so i will post the results later.
