Brake Upgrade for Mk1 1.8 RSi

Now then, I'm afraid I'm a Newbie so bear with me.

I have recently bought a P reg 1.8 RSi to strip out and use as a casual track day car. First of all I want to upgrade the front brakes, without spending a fortune preferably. Do any bigger cars brake set ups bolt on? ie Megane etc.
What is the most effective lowish cost solution?
Also are RSi's 8v or 16?

Cheers
Nathan

if the rsi is still on standard 14" wheels then your limited to just a disc and pad upgrade but if you get a set of 15" wheels off a 1.8 16v or williams then you can do a full front hub conversion so can use the bigger discs and calipers.
i would just do standard rsi rear disc/pad set up, 280mm front brembo hc discs, valver hubs, valver calipers and ferodo ds2500 pads, braided flexi lines all round and some performance dot 4 fluid!!
if you do the hub conversion you will also need some valver front shocks as the hub thicknes and bolt spacing is different to the rsi's!!

rsi is a 1.8 8valve engine!!

get on to clio16valver.co.uk for some cheap parts, may even be able to get a 1.8 16v mot failure for a few hundred quid and start swapping the engine/running gear over ;-)

im a bit of a mk1 geek so if you have any more questions, fire away...

Just swap the carriers for 1.8 16V / Williams and get the bigger 259mm discs... you don't even have to bleed the brakes:approve:

The hubs are the same between both models as are the calipers

Rsi = 239mm discs
16V = 259mm discs

The 16v set up will fit under the standard RSi wheels btw

Im more of geek Mat x

this is true, i stand corrected sir winston, its been a while since ive played with a mk1 or r5 tbh but always thought they had different bolt spacing/hub thicknesses!!

still a good idea to get hold of a valver for bits...
