brakes clunking on my 172

  Iceburg 172FF
Had my 172 for a couple of weeks and ive been noticing something strange with the brakes. When im slowing down not particularly hard or fast sometimes the front brakes sound like they are clunking kind of like when the abs comes on but since it is light braking I dont think thats it. Anyone got any idea what it could be? Im going to ring up the dealer and get it booked in for them to look at but since its not a renault garage I dont really trust them with it...ta

Check the caliper bolts are tight. If the pads have been changed recently then they might have come loose.
They are supposed to have threadlock applied to them as well, hence why they are a be-itch to undo the first time round!

ta for the suggestions im not sure wether they are new pads, i suspect they are because the squeal a bit sometimes at slower speeds also. I will check the caliper bolts when i get home from work and mention to the dealer about the abs ring as i dont wanna go poking around with all that incase i make it worse lol

cracked ABS rings is quite normal, if when your coming to a stop and you feel a little recoil on your pedal and quiet noise like stalling an electric motor, it will 99% be that an ABS ring has cracked.

It will be the pads moving slightly in the caliper, because the disc is rotating and the brake is applied the pads are pulled in the same direction hence the knock .

u will notice it more when travelling slowly or going from reverse to forward if the pads were tight in the caliper they would stick on, they need to move in and out.

i think that this is one of the reasons why you get that its to do with the shims being removed when the pads are changed you get knocking under low speed braking.
