Brakes for a 172

  RenaultSport clio 172
Hi

Apologies if this topic has been done to death, but I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd ask.

What's the general concensus on brake upgrades for the 172? Are uprated pads/discs 'man enough' for the job, or are there off-the-shelf callipers that are easy to get hold of/fit?

Regards

Welcome to the forum mate. What is it you are planning to do to your 172?
I ask as I find that my standard Renault kit is more than up to the job as I think may be the general consesus on here. Unless you are going for some serious engine mods as that would be a different kettle of fish.
A combo Fred recommends:
Brembo GrpN discs
Ferodo DS2500 pads
Goodridge lines
£199 IIRC.
Best of luck with the motor, and have a look for the search button;) , Its very useful.

Hi

The intention is probably to strip it for the track, and as I've been spoilt by having 356mm AP's on my Delta, I'm of the belief that you can never have enough brakes!! :D

I will end up modifying the engine too, but I was going to just 'hover' around for a few weeks and see what other people are doing. Sadly, the NA Renault engine is far harder to tune, or rather £ per bhp is more than an Integrale for example, so I'm expecting the serious modifications to cost serious money. I've seen the Blueflame exhaust on Ebay, which I'll probably buy assuming no one on this forum has any horrors stories...... or perhaps there's a better option out there?

I did have a 205 Mi16 as my track car, which had all the kit on it, adjustable Bilsteins, 306 callipers/pads/discs, 309 rear beam etc, so I'm looking at the 172 as a natural progression from that.

If you're going hardcore then you are probably better off speaking to Andy (GDI), Yoz (Yozzasport), BenR (Angelworks) or Fred (Sorry Fred not sure where you work). These guys know their stuff and should be able to point you where you need to be.

freds part of yozzasport iirc, as for your exhuast mate, either Hayward and Scott or powerflow are generally considered the best on here. Though Yozzasport are in the process of releasing one.

Spoke to Andy @ Yozzasport - 20 minute conversation later and the brakes, suspension, bushes and exhaust are all sorted. Nice guy, he's only 30 minutes away, and he knew his stuff too.

Thanks for the help.
