Brakes on MK2 172

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4

how long should the brakes last before needing to be replaced on a 172? and is it normally that they need to be changed all at the same time, or pads first before discs etc? mines done 36k on original brakes and feels as if it needs something new, pads/discs as it is not stopping as fast as it should.

Brake lifespan is totally dependant upon driving style the same way tyres are. If you are the last of the late brakers and stand on them everytime you have to slow down youll go through them quicker than someone who slows down earlier in anticipation of traffic and junctions and applys less pressure.

Id say you would probably need pads about now. Best to get the discs measured if they have a pronounced lip they may be on their way out, as for pads should be visibly possible to gauge the wear on them.

36k! I did my last set in 12,000ish. They could well be knackered now lol.
they still seem to knock speed off quickly from 70/60, but braking from 40/30 is a lot slower than they used to be.
