brakes?

  BMW F31
is it the ph2's?

really annoying cos mine could do with some rear discs, not only cos they look good :p

  Polo + Micra
i've got a mk2 ph2 1.6 and it hasn't got discs on the rear.

it seems to be just random cars that come with them

^ ditto. mini-valver has a mk2ph2 1.6 16v and again only has shoes.

i toyed with a rear disc conversion on my 1.2 but i couldnt find one anywhere

  BMW F31
i wonder how easy it would be to convert??

just get 172 rear hub assembly? and obviously all the confusing bits like brake lines :p

  Chocolate Bar™
not too hard apparently. k-tec offered to do mine, and my local garage even said they'd done it before. just need the hub, discs etc. and then the lines etc.

  80MPG BEEZA
yup i'm thinking on doing this but in the future though i want brembos on the front first

  BMW F31
middo, is it really that easy? and all you need is new lines to them etc?

bloody hell, i think im gonna have to get me rear discs :p

  BMW M135i
Rear discs were an option apparently on the 1.6 and dCi100, looked for one for ages before giving up and just settling for drums. Will make bugger all difference to braking apparently but they do look a damn sight better.
My god that ebay axle is dead tempting though, could pick it up from MK as well not too far.

wont make much diff to braking as the rears are pretty good on the mk2's anyhow, but looks tonnes better lol

i like the 16v badges they make it look quite stealthy.

do you have any side on pics like your avatar. really like your wheels too. the wheels in your avatar are different arent they?

Its only 4 both plus the handbrake cable and brake line to fit a disked rear axle. say 1 hour or so work then 30 minutes to bleed brakes etc.

New axles well Matt has 10 brand new 182 ones for £500 (new everthing you need) or second and ones for £200 ish.

Bumping up the oldest thread ever but rather that than start a new thread.

I also have a 1.6 16v with rear drums and want discs. I know it will make next to no difference to braking etc but I just wana do it. Looking at some of these threads it seems as if I could just buy a rear axle, have it fitted and all would be good, but what I want to know is, will it cause problems with my ABS? I remember Giles having problems with his 1.6 and ended up not bothering with the conversion as it was too much hassle? Something to do with rings and teeth lol.

Any help would be very welcome.

Cheers

The rear axle wil eyp just fit chnage the handbrakes cable as well.

the abs is the issue as Giles discovered his options are the the same

1) get new abs rings made up with the same number of teeth as the drums had (any enginnering place cold do it)

2) Get a true electrical expert to rewire the abs system (not going to happen)

3) swop to a 172 abs system or 1.6 which had rear disks etc and check front abs rings are the same tteh number as you have although I don't recon that will happen

4) this is the most promising someoen else has done this find out how many teeth you need 32 rings a bell when i counted them and find a front abs ring off a driveshaft with the smae nuymber and use that on the rear disk. someone else has done this before do a search but I think they found a normal abs ring has the correct number of teeth.

5) Bin the abs.,
