Breakdown discount and query about spare wheel?

I am currently looking for some breakdown cover for my 172. Does anyone know if Cliosport.net have managed to get any discount through the RAC/AA before? If not does anyone know of any discount codes that can be used?

Also has anyone had any experience of not carrying a spare wheel/just a can of tyreweld? Do they RAC/AA get funny if you need recovering due to a flat and you not carrying a spare?

Interesting thread. I to are looking for some break down cover at the moment as i do alot of miles.

Go with someone like chris knott, swinton or adrian flux for breakdown. All around £50 for full UK, relay and home.

They use small local garages all over the country to do the work, so have a bigger fleet than AA/RAC.

A lot of people go with AA/RAC but I dont rate them, they dont like paying out for a garage to come if their busy and have you waiting around for one of their own fleet to become available. Plus they are more arsey if its modified etc.

I had a quick chat with the RAC about this, they said that if I broke down due to a flat they would take me to a maximum of 10 miles from where I broke down (to the nearest tyre reseller).

Do you not have to take out your insurance with them to take them up on their breakdown cover? I did a quick google about the RAC/modified cars and a lot of people seem to have had issues with being recovered/them being arsey

Yep thats true, not alot of good on a sunday night tho is it. Tyre companies can charge up to £100 for call out on top of the cost of the tyre and its those charges that are not covered.

From same page in t&c's. Basicly a standard clio can be towed using the patrol van towing trailer. If the car has been lowered etc and will not go on this there could be charges. No idea why people getting arsey about it, its what they signed up for. No one reads what they have bought.

Same with the trackday thing. thats in t&c's and people still complain they didnt get recovered from the paddock at a circuit

This is why I am asking on the forum, there must be companies out there that do cater for modified vehicles. I don't mind paying more in the yearly premium than what I would if my car was standard as long as I got the service. I don't understand why the RAC don't have anything special plan in place, surely they cover various supercars/hypercars that are low/can't easily be towed?

EDIT: I suppose if you did have a hypercar you would have the money to buy the vehicle to tow your car so it wouldn't be an issue

You need to read it again. Supercars that 'cant easily be towed' were like that when they left the factory. Ferraris and Maseratis need a flat bed with an extremely low bed angle for example, we know that before we start. But the 17yo lad who has -100mm springs and 18'' wheels on his Corsa will also need the same truck and thats costs more money than conventional towing methods that a standard corsa can be shifted with.

You will get service but you may have to pay some additional towing costs should the need ever arise if it cant be towed using the equipment that a standard car can. No biggy. People do get arsey, seen it before but if you are prepared to pay a little extra (like you said) at the time of needing to be towed, then it shouldnt be a problem. t&c's dont say they wont cover you, just that there may be charges if different/specialist equipment is needed. there is no hard and fast fule, everything is taken on its merits.

Had an Astra once that was too low. The kid borrowed a spanner and took the front bumper off, problem solved.
