Broadband advice required

Right!

I've just moved in with my girlfriend and left my rented property. I've just called BT to cancel my existing phone line, and be told that I'm liable for the total cost of my broadband package with them which runs until September '08. Is there anyway I can get out of paying it?

I've already cancel my direct debit with BT so there not getting their hands on my money without a fight.

Phoneline etc and broadband is already in her name, and BT won't let me transfer a package to another person.

Could you not just ask them to transfer it?
I would of thought they would do that,
after all just say, your still getting your money and I'm still getting broadband just at a different address.

Edit, Them two messages wernt there when I clicked reply.

Not really very bright. They'll just sell it straight onto debt collectors who you will then have knocking on your door.

BT should have a contract with you, for 12 months, or even a monthly basis. However im sure its legally binding, even if you move property. Phone BT and ask them what can you do, as your moving property and the BT kit is already there. Im sure they can migrate you over, just will take "a period" of time.

You've got to love people in call centres, I'm sure nobody is actually trained in them, or if they have then they all didn't go on the same course. Now all sorted within 5 minutes.

Now that I can believe, we had the same problem with our broadband at Uni halls, first guy told us we woud have to pay the remainder on the cotract, phoned again and they said it would be fine to cancel it!
