Broken ignition spring

I have recently bought a 2001 Clio dci, although after you have started the car the key will not return. This has to be done manually to stop the starter motor from burning out. This looks to be a broken spring inside the ignition barrel?

I have contacted Renault as all other companies say go straight to them. They told me I will have to buy a complete new unit from France, meaning I would need to wait for the log book to be sent back to me, plus postage from France (1 month).

I have seen Clio ignition barrels on the internet for around £60 including the key, would this mean a straight swap? Would I then need to use the original key to unlock the car and the new key to start the car?

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks.

You could do that yes, would just mean you have a seperate key for the ignition. Somewhere might be able to strip the new unit down and match the key though...
