Broken seats - mk1 172

When i bought my 172 a couple of months ago the passanger seat wouldn't tilt forwards to allow people into the back. The handle for it was missing which I was told had just snapped off. This was fine, as the drivers side still worked...... until last night. There was just a crack, and then the handle came off in my hand! Is this a common problem? Im assuming it probably is as its now happened to both my seats.

Anyhow, what i wanted to check was that this is just down to the plastic handle, and not caused by something internally in the seat?

Presumably without the handle the relevant lever/cable probably isn't being pulled, so it won't tilt. If the handle's snapped off then I'd guess that means that's the weak link and nothing would have broken at the same time.

In terms of it being common, I think they're just a pretty rubbish design (most people who've had to use mine struggle with them) which lends itself to being pulled in the wrong direction and, consequently, coming off in your hand.

Although I'm sure someone else can give a more technical descriptin than that.......

It does happen the bits in the seat need to be lubricated else they get tighter and strain the cable then either the cable brakes or the plastic breaks.

You can buy some blinging metal ones for R5 gtt or one of the 5 tuners

cable has busted anyone got any idea how to repair or who does it

yeah it is a problem with the ph1's the part you need is 7701470827 and you get a pack of 4 handles, 2 dark blue ones and 2 grey ones.

has anyone got any pictures of the metal handles?

yeah my seat is difficult to slide forward too, think it has something to do with the little ball bearings in the seat runners, i'm just goint to change teh runners over on mine

my passenger seat also wont slid forwards and the drivers side handle is broke so it doesn't stay on the seat

My passenger seat wont slide forwards either, dropping it off tonight to get it looked at... hopefully an easy fix, lets hope.
