Buy a 182 or do a 2litre conversion ??

  Static Low
Ive been going over it and over it in my head for ages now & im not really getting anywhere !!

thoughts ??

This is my car & tbh, its just crying out for some decent power now. I love the fact it would be a total sleeper & it would finish off my car very nicely. According to my mate.."you cant just buy the best. You have to build it" :p. I think that buying a 182 would just be me running away from what ive already started without finishing it.

mate that car is SEX!! but.... standard 182 look mint..... up to you but my 182 is for sale at the moment 5k if you could sort some cash out id do px :)

I see what you mean about doing a conversion, but surely you would be better off stripping your car back to standard and starting again on a new project?

What have you done to it? Wheels, suspension, splitter...? Anything you couldn't just pop onto a 182?

I'm having these thoughts just now aswell. After all the cash I've spent on mine I don't want to see it go, but I'm bored of having bugger all power under my right foot. Conversion would cost half the cash of buying a 182, but it's a whole lot more hassle.

Im in the same boat matey. done so much to my clio, its the only one of a kind even if it is only a 1.2 and its exactly how i want it.

Imo i think id buy a 182 and start a new project, im sure ull love a new car just as much as you do your current car once you start personalising it.

I was finking the same m8 but i got 3 grand part ex for my old one so bought 182.
But I fink a 2 litre wud be immense in yours m8, if i remember correct the insurance for a 2litre conversion car would be less then for a 182. So may be worth it m8

Would hardly call it a sleeper looking like it does right now though (which is very nice btw!). Madness incidentally IMO - get a 1*2, they are going so cheap now...

Hm I reckon finish the job on her and drop the 2.0l in. This probably isn't good advice as it's likely more hassle and financially makes less sense, but it'll be far more rewarding and I'm sure you're quite attached to that car.

Do the conversion mate you will be much more satisfied, as your mate says you have to build the best!

coilies, custom springs, poly bushes, front strut brace, 172 rear bumper, pipercross viper induction kit, they wheels & i have another set for winter, cc'd the sidestrips n' front bumper plastics, rs front grill, custom stealth exhaust.. plus loads more wee things, including lots of interior work.

I have a white show cage ready to fit..... more than just fitting a new splitter, powdering a set of wheels & lowering it

& yep.. i could do it all to a 182 but ive already spent the money & my car has been paid for

If you know someone who'll do the conversion on the cheap or be capable of doing it yourself I'd go down the conversion route. There's advantages and dis-advantages to which ever you decide to do. If did do the conversion at least you know the car where as if you bought a 182 you could quite possibly end up with a bad one and be forever spending money on it. A dis-advantage is, the insurance companies that insure a conversion are limited, would probably have to use a specialist like Flux or Brentacre (sp).

Surely if you do a conversion you'll have to replace a lot of what you've done anyway (if you want 182 suspension etc). I'd buy a 182 and transfer what you can over.

if you done the conversion properly, engine, gbox, brakes, suspension, interior, what do u end up with its still not going to be a 182 is it, i would buy a 182 tbh,

why not finish up your current car and see what you could get for it, then even see about picking up say a 172 cup and doing your thing to it

  172 /megane cab
for the money you can get 172/182s for now i would sell it and just put a bitto getting a sport get the best cup you can for 4k best bet i reckon

Hmm, I wouldn't bother with a conversion myself tbh..

Much less hassle to buy a sport, but I know you love your car, so it's just whatever feels right to you..

But if it was me I wouldn't do either, I would save up and get an even bigger car. ;)

I'd buy a 182. I know your car is modded and will be completely different from a standard 1.2 but when I upgraded to my 172 it felt like a completely different car, more solid, much better to drive generally.

You love your current car but maybe its time for a change.

I appreciate the input guys. Thanks alot.

Im sure i'll come to a decent conclusion at some point. Id certainly have to put the wee bus back to standard though, couldnt bare to sell her on the way she is

So basic suspension mods, some new wheels and little body work. If you can get the 2.0 conversion in relatively easy and cheaply I'd pop it in your already modified car. Doesn't sound like you've done anything too drastic that would make your current shell/chassis a priority to keep....so weighing up the costs might be worth just buying a 182.

Emotional attachment is always something no one else can understand, sometimes nice to keep the same car going :)

182 £4000 +

conversion £2,500 roughly (based on k-tecs price)

f**k it..you only live once

Makes no sense.

Spending £2.5k on a £2k car that'll still only be worth £2k.

Or buy a 182 for £5k, get all the trimmings too, and have better residuals.

No brainer, when you think about it.

Think a transplant is more hassle than it's worth, especially when you can pick up a 1*2 pretty cheap these days. I would return the bus to standard and reuse whatever parts you can. End of the day it's up to you bud.

I went through the same thought process lad, I love your car and I love mine, but it is just time to move on from Renaults for me :)

If you are thinking 182 or conversion, I would defo go with 182, conversions can cause unforeseen issues. Better to have something that is meant to have that sort of power :)

Buy a 172/182 seriously!.
It is so much less hassle than doing a conversion and cheaper unless everything goes ok!.
Been there and spent a fortune!
Would never do it again!

I forgot to mention that if i done the conversion, i would also be buying another car to use everyday instead of the clio !
