Buyin a clio 172

  Clio 2.0 172
Looking seriously to buy a clio 172 but I'm really struggling to find a ph2 for under 4k with low mileage :( I thought my budget would have been big enough or am I doing something wrong?

Whats low miles to you>?

My 172 is 8 years old and has just tickled 55k (i regard that as low miles)

To be honest mate, if its been looked after and cherished miles are nothing on the Renault Sports.

What variant are you looking to aquire? How far you willing to travel?

Low miles to me would preferably be under 60k

My preference would be a full fat Ph2 172 with xenons and half leather/half suede interior etc and next would be a Ph1 which i have found 2 or 3 of in my budget with low mileage similar or less than yours but ideally it would be a Ph2

Havn't thought of a cup due to lack of equipment. Willing to travel as far as it takes really for right car. I did 840 miles all in for my 11 year old corsa I have just now so not really an issue

Danny, that one is a perfect example of what I'm after. Standard is good or a couple of mods like that one doesn't bother me as they are subtle and quality compared to cheap shite.

Riz you have a pm back mate

Jamesstone- That's what I thought but browsing pistonheads etc seems to show up huge variations in prices from one advert to the next with some people just being very ambitious with their pricing

That took me 2 mins to find mate.

The best thing to do is find more than 1 to go and look at, setting a benchmark of what your after is a good start.

Put up a wanted thread of a 172, people might be intrested in buying if you have cash waiting...!

I got mine on 32k for way less than 4k...

You just have to keep looking and catch one at the right time.

  182 Trophy
i had same problem as you mate, had lots of interest in the rallye at 4k, but had to take it off pistonheads because i was struggeling, a guy offered me a mint 172cup in blue with 45k, on coilies with trophy wheels
he wanted 4800 though

Mickstoke- I'm located in Aberdeenshire,Scotland but as said distance isn't really an issue, enjoy a good roadtrip if it's worth it.

Danny- I had seen that one before mate but I have revised my budget recently and increased it a bit to include examples like that

I don't myself have all the cash waiting due to not having my car up for sale until it has been back from the bodyshop but I am most likely able to borrow the remaining money from parent's until I have my car sold

£4000 will secure you a good example, just remember the Cambelt is essential on all the 172's as all are now older than 5 years.

If it hasnt been done, negotiate 5-600 off the cost of the car, you will be looking at this much to have it changed from a specialist

Cheers Danny, some sound advice there. It seems i just need to keep my eyes open and keep looking

If I told you that mine as said had 32k, belts all done, not a scratch on her 10 months mot, 12 months tax - was up for £4,000...

£3550 :)

Just be patient and don't buy the first you see unless its a steal - I guarantee you'll find one better - and travel! I drove to get mine (when I could have had a shitter for the full 4k only 3 miles away - thank god I didn't!)..

Guy I just sold the Williams to travelled over 2 hours to see it.

That black one looks tidy enough in the photos but so did lots of cheap ones I went to look at too. just have a damn good gander ;)

Yeah. I won't be going for the first one I see. And whatever one I set my mind on I will be paying the extra few pennies for a full HPI check for that bit more info. As said travelling is something I'm more than happy to do. I left my house at 7am on a trip for an 11 year old corsa sport and arrived home about 11.30pm the same day so it's not an issue lol
