Buyin My Self A New Car

  Black Clio 182
this time next year i am hoping to have my self a new car. by then i will have 3 years no claims and will be 21 so hopefully the insurance costs for me would have gone down.

after being in sh33n's cup i would love to get one of them but im not sure about the insurance costs of that. would love to stick to having a clio but ive heard the 1.6's arent that fast.

so i am also thinking of getting a 106 gti but the problem with that is that it is hard to find one that hasnt done many miles and is newer than my W reg clio as they have stopped making 106's.

what do you people reckon i should do?

how much bhp has the clio 1.6 got?

i dont really want an older car though, i need my car for work so will be driving alot. so really want something newer than what ive got.

Williams cost a fortune to insure there 172 price usually but you can get limited milage polices but there under 10k and more often under 5k a year milage which is small.

Have a shop around though for a 172 quote you might be suprised just add a year or whatever to your age when checking for insurance.
1.6's are good but personally I'd go to a 2.0 the 1.6 is quite expensive still on insurance its not far off a 172 usually. A 1.6 16V has 110hp the 1.4 is much cheaper insurance wise and is 100hp.
Look for a full fat 172 though as Cups can be expensive sometimes o insure do to there calim rates but it does depends some companies want more for a 172 full fat.
Personally I'd see waht the market for 172/182 etc is like nxt year with the new RS clio due then 172/182 pices might fall you proably can pick up a trophy or 182 for £8~9k by then with low milage or Mk2 2 172's for a grand less.

I'm paying that now for my insurance mate.

The 106 GTIs are very nice, or like I said before Valver's should be better on insurance.

You know you want a Cup though ;)

But if it's a year away worry about it then! :)

Can`t go wrong with the GTI, i had one for 3 years which is a long time for me, other than the GTI a VTS if you can put up with the image.

I said VTS he just gave me an evil look; don't think he likes the image.

Shame; decent cars.

Are you desperate for a small car?
Bigger bodied, bigger engined cars often actually decrease the insurance as they are less likely to be driven by boy racers.

im 21 with 3 years NCB, my 3000GT (group20) (3.0 V6 Twin Turbo 320BHP) cost £1064 FC for a year with admiral. i did a quote for a 182 and it came back more expensive!

take a look around, you'll be suprised at what insurance deals can be had for bigger cars!

See admiral really tried to do me on quote they werent just expensive they were £2000 more expensive! 2 sodding grand and i had less miles on and changed it to be parked in a secure parking area with them.

i would go for the ph2 if i got a 172.

im thinking of sticking with a clio for my next car but like sh33n said it is a year away so by then other cars will be cheaper and my mind might be changed lol.

yeah dont want a saxo, dont like the rep for them and i feel like im going down market getting one of them lol.

the 1.6 has 110bhp as standard, faster than a vtr but not as quick as a 106 or vts...however they're high insurance groups anyway. mines pretty quick all things considered.

Get a 106 gti, my mate got one when he was 20 & the insurance wern't too bad.
They are group 13, it would be about 1k or less- actually I think less that £800 would be about right !

at 21, a 172 will cost you no more than 1k to insure!!!
I wouldn't be to sure I'm looking at paying £1.3k for a 172 at 23 with 3 yrs NCB and 1 cliam. IF I lived in my old house (still in a nice area) its £1.6k.

Really, my area's quite risky on the scale and I'm paying 1k on a new 182 with 2 yrs NCB, adding my mum knocked off £400 tho
