Buying a Clio 182 Cup

Hey guys

So i think its about time i get rid of the '97 1.6 corsa sport for something a bit more modern and maybe abit faster!

Im looking at a clio 182 cup, and its looking like i will have around £4500 to spend.

My question is simply......Is this enough? Obviously i am not looking at the best example out there, but i would like a nice tidy, clean car with as lower milage as possible.

Am i being realistic? I have had a look on pistonheads and there seems to be a fair few around, but i am sure you guys will be able to tell me if im going to get a dog for that much

Depending in what you're looking for I'd spend £4500 on a mint 172. Most really nice 182's are fetching over £5k.

I just got a 53 plate 172 cup for £3800... mint. The Cup is the lightweight version so no a/c,leather etc.

For £4500 I'd be buying a tidy/mint 172.

That money will get you a high (ish) miles 182.

Also, from what i have seen, you can get a 182 with both cup packs which would include climate control etc. But the 172 with both cup packs doesnt have that?

You will not feel any real world speed/acceleration difference between any standard 172/182

But, If its a stripped out road rocket/track **** you want to make your car into...I advise a 172cup

If its more creature comforts you are looking for go for a 182ff with both cup packs...all IMO of course.

I myself have a 182cup so i am not being biast in anyway!

Yeah, im thinking 182! I need to check out the £ situation to be honest, and may be able to bump it up to £5000, it just depends how much i get for my corsa.

I just dont want to have to get a crap one for my £ There are a few out there with around 50k miles on the clock.

What would you say are the main things to make sure that have been done on one with 50k on the clock

Just make sure that cambelts have been done and if its over 5 years old also the aux belt. Even better if both have been done at the same time. The belts have been known to cause major problems in the past if they snap so its important you check the service history, but other than that just the usual things.

You also might want to just send us a link of the car you are interested in as sometimes car owners who dont have a clue advertise their car as something it isnt as regards to cup packs etc...

5000 pounds will get you a reasonably tidy 182 with good mileage. Just don't be in a rush to get one and find one thats been properly looked after by an enthusiast

I bought a Stolen and recovered 2004 182 for £4100.00 car was mint and had done 47,000 miles. I had the RAC report from when it was recovered so all was good. If you search hard enough you will come across something decent at a good price

Sometimes these can be good buys, espeically if it's a long term ownership - the only problem is not everyone will entertain a category registered car.

Thats another good idea, where would you get something like that from?

Im going to be after one which has had a new cambelt, aux belt, and a good condition exhaust! I have heard they fall off quite alot? Hah.
