BUYING A CLIO 182 I NEED ADVICE

  golf r32 dsg

IM BUYING A CLIO 182 ON SEPT 1ST, ITS AN IMPORT THOUGH MADE IN THE FRENCH FACTORY CAT 1 3YRS WARRENTY PAID £12500! IS THAT A GOOD PRICE IT WAS THE BEST I COULD FIND? IM LOOKING FOR AN AIR FILTER WHICH IS EASY TO PUT ON AND TAKE OFF BECAUSE OF WARENTY THERE ABIT DODGY ABOUT MODS IN MY LOCAL RENAULT GARAGE ALSO I WANT TO LOWER IT WILL 172 SPRINGS FIT??

All air filters are easy to whip in and out, half hour job tops. Which one you get comes down to price your willing to pay.

172 Springs? Dunno about them fitting at all but I doubt it and even if they do I dont think it would benefit you in anyway really. Im guessing that as its an import you were unable to get the Cup suspension, therefore if I were you Id look into getting some Eibachs, a lot of the Cup drivers on here have them and they are certainly the most popular.

You could of course get coilovers but again it comes down to Budget.

£12,500 is about the going rate for an import, perhaps a little high. Remember you wont get the chassis number etched onto the glass, you wont get a Cat One alarm (£300) and you MIGHT not get the mats. You wont get locking wheel nuts either so Id invest in one of those.

All in all fiarplay youve avoided the wait but I got offered one for £13,500 from a main dealer and others on here got main Renault dealers down to £13,200, one I know of to £13,050.

Oh and one more thing...

Just read the bit about the Cat one in your post

thats unusual for an import. It cant be factory fit as the Renault dealers fit them on site IIRC so the broker must be fitting yours.

Yes mate the cat 1 was fitted by my broker i was told its better than the factory fitted 1 they wouldnt insure me without it anyway....i pushed my budget out to 12500 couldnt afford much more i wanted the cup suspension but neva mind hey?! what filter would you recomend for sound and quality?

Good price that for a car but unfortunatly you cannot have the cup pack still coilover or new springs etc will do just as good if not better job.

Regards warently and mods Renault have to prove the mod was responsible for the warently claim to refuse to do the work for free so I wouldnt worry.

Im not sure if the springs will fit they apparently do (do a search to check) but the 182 has different suspension setup (even none cup ones) than the 172 so Im not sure.

Thats good init?
Yep excellent but there were 182 for sale pre registered for £10k when they came out so a 172 migh have been able to be got if the dealer was despirate for the sale or an importer wanted to get rid of it quickly.

The differences between UK and Import are;

- Import is cheaper

- A lot of ppl are wary of the word "import" and therefore this can affect resale value. Dealers will push this point in a Part Ex deal even further and offer less £££s.

- Imports are missing the Renault alarm. Thats all well and good and many brokers will say the alarms they fit are better. But they are still Cat One either way. Only thing is, I get a 3 year warranty with a Renault Alarm. If it goes wrong, I go to Renault. If you get a Toad alarm or whatever and it goes wrong, you will need a Toad dealer/fitter. Plus you wont be getting a Renault Dealer to fix it. So swings and roundabouts there.

- As mentioned above your glass wont be etched with the chassis number.

- You wont get locking wheel nuts

- No Cup options.

- SOME dealers will give you grief over your 3 year warranty.

Is there much diffrence between uk and import??
Imports dont have Cup suspension, locking wheel nuts, CAT 1 alarms, window etching and sometime that have one touch windows on both sides (normal uk cars dont).

Not much different and with an import you can spend the extra on coilovers etc and make it more to your own spec if you want though.

The Law has only recently changed regarding Imports and warranty. Most imports only had a 1 or 2 year warranty and it was decided that this was unfair. Therefore countries within the EC (i think, or EU, whatever) NOW all vehicles have the same warranty, import or not.

Do a search.

how come theyll give me grief over 3yr warrenty mate?
They shouldnt and you should have the same rights but they can be.

Ive taken my car to loads of dealerships (UK car) and even though they never made any profit on my car they all treat me better than my original dealership. This idea that a dealership takes more care of Uk cars or cars they sold isnt always true.

Regards warenties all import (Cyprus excepted) have a 3yr warently you just had to send a letter to renault to tell them. I think even cars from Cyprus are classed as having a 3yr warently though now.

hmmm i had a uk 172 b 4 i got my import 182 and dealers gave me grief about that one so dont worry pal dont make that much diff even on trade in price theyll try and rip you off even if youre tradin in a uk car

Hi mate. Ive had my import 182 for 3 weeks now and love it! Paid 12K OTR from Motorpoint. Didnt come with CAT1 alarm but got the same alarm as the UK car fitted for £250. Need to get some locking wheel nuts asap but mine came with mats from the showroom.

Ive had some Apex 40mm springs fitted to my 182 which were listed as 172/CUP springs and have had no probs so far and they make the car look sooooo much better.

No pics as yet! Getting a digi cam soon so will post a few asap! I didnt get a three year warranty. Just the two years but in my experience they arent good for much anyway.
