Mate dont bother.

You aint gonna have that car forever.

put the cash in the bank.

(IMHO)

im gona spend money on my car, depends on wot tho, so i wana c wot my power options are

you might as well save for a fast motor. For such a small engine, the money you will have to spend will be lots and lots and it still wont be fast as its only a 1.2

Well it is kind of a waste of money spending it on the engine, but im sure you could get ii gasflowed, and the head looked at?

The antithesis of speed and agility is of course weight, so you could consider dumping those rear seats in the shed and replacing the fronts (they dont have airbags do they?) with the lightest ones you can find. You could strip all sound proofing out of the boot (and take out that sub!).

I bet those 16s you have are heavy for what they are, some superleggeras or some new Team Dynamics would be better. You could get some more dry weather (sticky rubber) while youre at it.. I wouldnt normally say this but Rage do titanium rear boxes which will be quite a bit lighter than steel. Also find some front discs which are a bit lighter..

With all that loss of weight youd at least have a lot of fun trying to go fast!

i like my sub.

cud get rid of rear seats but come in handy lots

dont want rage back box

cant afford seats

so that leaves only new alloys which will make f**k all diff-haha

cheers tho rob, ur obviously not busy

I agree with the Power boost valve. I had a 1.2 8v and I had an IK, Backbox and Power boost valve. The boost valve made quite a big difference. Might not be as noticable on bigger engines but made a difference low down on mine.

Doesnt seem to be any point at all in spending money on power to lug around a load of ICE. In a 1.2 spending a grand on power mods probably wont increase the power/weight ration sufficiently to counteract the weight of the sub etc.

I think the wise choice is to bank that money and get yourself something kick ass fast in 4 years time that can also carry your ICE around.

I hate all this "just wait and get a faster car" bullsh*t. Heres some options wee man:

I had a 1.4 8v 93 Clio which i did some of the following too, and it was FAST for a 1.4.

Decat, Filter (not open IK something like a BMC or something), head flowed, cam, chip (or new ECU, something like an APEXI Power FC £800 + VAT tho), larger throttle, FSE Boost Valve, Injectors, short shift (not more BHP but quicker changes so quicker acc), weight reduction, iridium tiped plugs, plug leads, a good engine flush and oil change (something like FORTE advanced formula motor flush), run on optimax all the time. There is more but thats all i can think of just now.

Lightened and balanced bottom end and better con rods (so you can raise the rev limiter), lightened fly wheel.

yeah but what return would you get on that? sure youve learnt a lot if you have done all the mods yourself but if you are just gonna throw mony at a garage then whats the point? it wont be as quick as a valver, you will have to rev the sh*t out of it to get decent power which is both dangerous unless the engine has been properly built and is a bit annoying for driving around town.

and the "yeah but i cant afford the insurance on a valver". well by the time youve finished buying all the above you could have done!

Thats fair enough buddy, personally i have no regrets doing that to my 1.4, and ive a Valver now which ive spent even more money on and i still get humped by Impretzas, Skylines etc. Should i not spend any money on my valver and just save till i can buy an EVO or something. Youre never going to get massive power out of it, but you can make it faster. My 1.4 RT was faster than my mates VTR, RSi, and more bigger engine, higher insurance groups cars.

On an 8v engine you dont really need to rev the t!ts off it, a Valver is no different, below 4000 revs it is not really quick.

no but in general because of the lower capacity of a 1.2 you have to get the engine to do approx 50% more revolutions to combust the same amount of mixture that a 1.8 can do (as std).

interesting point about saving the valver money then getting an evo, i suppose you could then say i wont mod an evo ill wait till i get a (very fast car). i dont know how to argue that analogy, i suppose its what people deem to be a useable engine to start with.

just thinking about it, i suppose when you start insternal work on any car you should set yourself a limit to what you are going to do, and as long as the person with cthe cash is realistic about it and knows what he/she is likely to be able to compete with (if thats their aim) then you cant argue with that!

Yea steve totally agree, some people dont mind spending some money on a 1.2 to make it a bit faster, and are happy with that, some people may not be happy with that and what a Valver or something, and it goes on and on as i said, why spend on a valver when you can get an EVO, then why spend on an EVO when you can get get........ and so on.

Some people are happy with their 1.2, just want it a bit faster, maybe like a 1.4 or 1.6.

Egine Transplant would be easy.

Ive a 1.2 8v and ive got a Induction kit which is losing me power so am looking for a decent one. What a waste of money that was. Im gonna get the cams re-done (as im keeping the car for at least 4 years) then 2 years down the line i might get an engine transplant to a 1.8 16v if possible.

But for now once im done with looks of the car (lowered, body kit, exaust) ill start work on the engine. Viper kit, Cams redone, then chipped should help give it a bit more power.

But all thats a dream at the moment, much like owning a williams which is the car i want after this one.

fair play mate but i have to say that i have owned 3 cars now, and each i have not done hardly anything besides basically strip and rebuild them to learn about mechanics - i am not going to shell out non-returnable money on a car that at the end of the day is not going to stand out.

I am hoping sometime in the next six months to get a valver, and that is when i will strart the serious stuff. but i think people should understand more about what is being done to their engines and car when they have work done, i.e. like head work, cams. learn how they really work rather than just pop out odd catchphrases.

btw that had nothing to do with your post mate, just got me thinking!

tooooo DAMN right! Where the hell is this arbitrary line?! Coz I also cant stand it when people say dont bother, just get a faster engine... i mean, whats the smallest engine thats deemed modable in peoples eyes? coz theres always one faster & u cant just keep saying that unitl ur talking about pagani zondas etc etc. Theres gotta be a line somewhere. for instance in clios... where is the line? nothing below 1.6 16v? but the 1.4 16v aint much different in acceleration and top speed compared to the 1.6 16v, and it goes back the other way!
I will be modding my 1.2 16v a lil bit.... not too much, But enough to counter the weight of the ICE ive added (hopefully) & just have the edge on all the other 1.2 16vs! & no1 has the right to say leave it or not... fair play its just ur own advice. but we are all here to do the same thing & achieve the same goals. but we are all modding cars, some people cant afford to have the faster cars so they mod the slower ones! coz they just like modding etc etc!
most of this money we are spending we aint gonna get back so **** it! lol might as well go the whole way :D

anyways, i must apologise for the length! but I thought i would view my own opinions!

p.s. mate, give BenR ur head, and some silver & he will do that for ya which will see u some nice increases as standard and will compliment most other mods uve got or getting :)
