  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Not often I ask for help-

THe PH1 was due to go today ( ironic) & after running for 15 mins I acrued a large puddle of water under the drivers wheel front, seemed to do it when I turned the car off rather than when running?

Obviously im not happy to release the car as is- some advice please?-

Firstly- driveable?- my nearest garage is 3 miles- TWO techs in dartford- which have a very good reputation on here-

I am guessing
THermostat?
Loose hose?
Water pump bearing?- Which will be annoying as If if it was on its way out why could it have gone prior to the belts!

Finally- if it is the water pump- what are we looking at- AUX belt kit & Pump?- the aux belt kit has done 500 miles,- I guess can the kit be reused & just change the belt again?

many thanks
Steve

Thermostat is passenger side, water pump is drivers side, hoses could be either side.

Wouldnt ever advise driving a car with a water leak just in case it suddenly gets a lot worse (which can easily happen if its a split appearing in a hose etc) but if you do so then drive with the water filler cap off so the system doesnt pressurise and then it will leak far less.

Ive been chatting to James- its been run up to temp in the last half hour & no leaks, no coolant drop-

Could be condensation for the A/C - as I had that on full chat while I was driving-

Does it appear to have lost any coolant?

It is surprising how much condensation can form on the aircon, so its perfectly possible thats all it is.

My 172 and 182 never gave any condensation in the 6 years I had them.

I'd almost guarantee it's condensation from the aircon evaporator, as the drain pipe for it is on the drivers side, and when you turn the engine off the aircon stops working and that's normally when the condensation froms.

Worked on two 1*2s over the weekend and both had water leaking from the undertray where the aircon had been working overtime from the recent hot weather.

Most of the cars I work on have had a recent coolant flush (with some bright green Renault type D) so an easy way to tell is to put a white sheet of paper under the leak, you'll quickly tell if it's a coolant leak.

We get it all the time at Renault during the summer, people think there car has a leak, its just the a/c drain pipe from the evaporator dropping out the condensation. During an m.o.t its fuking annoying when i leave the a/c on and its dripping everywhere!
