Cam belt, Aux belt + PAS pump? this a good price?

My power steering pump failed yesterday so thought i may aswell get the cambelt changed at the same time. Got a quote today for £714 all in. After i picked myself up off the floor and had a closer look at the price breakdown i thought it wasn't actually too bad.

Does these prices sound about right/average? I dont really want to get a second pump either

It's worth speaking to the specialists on here, as plenty of small garages will c**k the cambelt up. Oh, and make sure they do an aux belt kit, not just the belt. If the belt goes, it usually takes the cambelt with it, costing big money.

I've got a second hand PAS pump in the shed, I think..

the labour part is pretty bad. About £100 over the top. Should be doing an aux belt kit too

That price would sound right if they included the full aux belt kit and a service (oil, all filters, etc).

all the specialists on here are too far away, plus can't really drive the car now so need somewhere local. I was meant to ask them if it was an aux kit or just the aux belt on the quote but forgot, probably just the belt going by the price. They are good respectable garage though, not just the dodgy one i usually go to for small jobs that i cant be arsed to do myself

doesn't mean they know how to do these though. I've been into many respectable garages to do F4R and K4M cambelts when they've got stuck and asked for help. I'm near enough identical pricing to Fred, doesn't make any sense trying to under-cut and gives people a choice based on who they want to go to rather than price (well thats how i see it anyway)

£600 is that with the pump too? do you know how much would it roughly cost to have the car towed to you? about 140 miles

Ok Fred cheers, you do seem to be the closest and easiest to get to. do you know if the car would be ok to drive? all the fluid has gone and i get a burning smell coming from somewhere, not sure if thats the pump burning itself out. Gonna look into hiring a car transporter too

well amazingly my bro just told me he has a reconditioned PAS pump that he never got round to fitting when he had his 182 (i presume its the same as a 172 pump) so i'm gonna get that fitted asap.

Fred expect a call sometime for both belt kits to be changed in the first week of november
