Mine all came out with the seal face flush or slightly inset from the outer face so yours too far in and too far out. Grease them too on the running face and make sure they are correct by checking the inlet one on the back of the dephaser prior to fitting.

I'm guessing that the engine has sat for a good time or the cams themselves have sat for a while, they look to have rust spots on, good rub up with a Brillo pad will help.

Thanks for that, yes its sat for a while, as i say third time lucky, should i tighten the rocker cover first??

use a genuine seal kit not mickey mouse s**t!

rocker cover fitted and torqued FIRST, then push the seals in so they are flush with the outer face of the head, not pushed in like on your exhaust cam! Tip - use the back of the crank pulley as a pushing tool ;)

Hi guys, hopefully you've sorted out the leak cam_hoof, I'm doing aux/cambelt/dephaser/seals change this weekend and I was wondering how these seals should seat on, since I've have not dissasembled it yet.

So, the seals MUST be flush against the block, not inside not protruding, right?
I am not taking the rocker cover off -as in the renault manual does not mention it to be necessary-,
so how should I take the old seals out? Fred, I read that they can be pushed in with the crank pulley, is it too hard?
I have all the other tools for the camshafts the crank pin, the horshoe and the pulley tool- but these two fitting plugs and the pulley tool Mot.799-1.

Can I rotate the engine (with sparkplugss offf of course) with the carnk pulley -and old bolt partially torqued- instead of the 799-1 for adjustint the tension and timing??

Another one.. do you know the size of the timing covers bolts and the female torx bit size for the auxiliary tensioner? I am getting a ratcheting spanner for the cover bolts and the bit tonight...

Thanks and best regards guys!!!!

The exhaust seal isnt fussy, can fit flush or be pushed in, it shouldnt leak what position its in as long as its not hanging out the head. The inlet seal can sit slightly pround, it certainly wont hurt, worst case is when the dephaser pulley is tightened it will push the seal in to where it needs to sit.

Tanks Laine, I'll inform you all and try to get some pictures of the job... somebody with the aux-belt tensinoer type/size stud??? I think is E-10, I am not sure...

OK... just an update, the size of the external torx socket used for the aux-belt tensioner bolt is an E-12, for anyone looking for it... you will need 18, 16, 15 & 13mm hex sockets/spanners for taking out the cambelt cover the alternator support and the crank pulley, for compressing the tensioner I used 1" - 3/8 extension.
