Cambelt HELP!

Just recently had my cambelt done - got a quote off the garage for £160 this included a service. It was cheap but it had been recommended to me, and this quote was inc of VAT too.

I had to travel half an hour to the garage (it was on way to Hull) on my way home after having had cambelt and service done I broke down about 15 mins away from my house.

I called the garage and at first they asked me to bring it back the day after to which I point blank refused as a) I couldnt physically get the car there and b) I didnt see why I should when it was clearly something they had caused.

It was agreed in the end that one of the mechanics would come out to have a look at it, turns out the cool air feed thingy was hanging off (and yes before you ask I did lift the bonnet to check if I could see anything and I couldnt).

Anyway after all the hassle of that I finally (a month later) get an invoice through today for £223 - £63 more than I was quoted. So I rang the garage and the owner explained it was because they had to replace the cambelt with a whole kit rather than just the belt, well Im not sure what this meant but its on the bill @ £75 is this right??? I basically said I wasnt happy as Id specifically gone there (taken a day off work and travelled out there) as they were majorly cheaper than places in York. Turns out now their not and also the fact my car broke down 30 mins after picking it up from the garage.

The guy said ok call it a straight £200, should I just be happy with this or take it further i.e. write them a letter asking for more money off the bill?

Even the fact they've messed me about I had to wait around for 3 hours for them to come and fix my car. Also I dont think that pipe thing being detached for 30-40 mins of driving will have done my car any good.

sounds a con to me. i payed 120 quid for my cam belt doing on my 1.2.

Think they used non renault parts though.

If they quoted you 160 then but you didn't get anything in writing i dont think there is much you can do :(

Right peeps.
Following on from the above Ive been having a couple more probs with car since it was at the garage. Im going to get onto them on Monday but basically my car has broken down.
Wont start and has done this a couple of times since I had the car in for cambelt change. This morning I went to the car and it wouldnt turn over, left it a couple of hours went back and it started up ok, went out shopping, came out of Argos and it did the same again so Ive had to leave it in the carpark and come home.
I will be going back tomorrow to see if It will start again but just wondered if anyone had any ideas? I dont know anyone who can have a look at it so any suggestions would be apprechiated

When you say wont start do you mean like battery dead or like turns over but wont fire ?

is the imobilisier light stay on ? or does it flash until you turn the key ready to fire up?

It doesnt do anything, almost like battery is dead but then if that was the case it wouldnt start 2 hours later like it did this morning would it?

yee that seems fine,

earth connection from the battery could be dodgey,(therefore earth it yourself connect black jump lead on black connection on battery and other end on the starter motor)

If it doesn't even turn over its either the battery or the immobiliser lass.

Norm said the same about dodgy wire, shall I just have a little fiddle with the wires around the battery?

Yeah give them a wobble and make sure there all tight and everything and follow the earth cable from the battery to wherever its terminated (starter motor?) and check that's all Ok.
