Cambelt Replacement in Coventry or Warwickshire

  Clio 182 Sport Blue
Hi Guys & Girls

Sorry if this isn't in the right section, I'm a bit new (no excuse) and I'm trying to navigate on a new laptop thats already knackered...

Can anyone recommend a good local garage in Coventry or Warwickshire to change a cambelt on a '54 182?

I've read on here to go to a recommended specialist and I know it's a b1tch of a job so want to go somewhere who know what they're doing!

Thanks

Dan

I have just arranged to get a full MOT & Service but in Coventry, just easier with work! Got everything coming at once; MOT, Service, Cambelt, Tax, Insurance... Expensive month!

Fred could probably have sorted the lot for you and maybe even given you a lift to the train station!
Seriously though, my Trophy is maintained on a "money no object" basis and it will not go anywhere else having seen the guy work.

Just off this week on holiday, I'll give you a call when I'm back to arrange for the cambelt change early September if that's OK!

Cheers

So how much did changing the cambelt/timing belt cost?

Did they also change the cambelt tensioner and the idler pulley as Renault recommend?

Can't see that link as not a member. I am just wanting a general price of what replacing the cambelt and the other required parts will cost.

as sam says we're

£465 for cambelt kit and auxbelt kit, inc labour/VAT/12months warranty
£665 including the dephaser (£165 for the pulley, £35 for oil and filter)

No idea when the aux belt was changed. Never changed one on any car, they aren't service items, just replace them when worn.

What's a dephaser?

Cam belt for my previous car (Honda Civic) was £200. Why is this more than twice the price?

Auxbelt tensioner and pully are serviceable items. Its a 6 hours job which requires specialist tools.

Dephaser pully controls the VVT and we recommend you change it, they can start to rattle and make your car sound like a diesel. When they get really bad they can throw off the timing.

If they are service items then how come they don't have a mileage or age limitation as a cambelt or air filter etc. They don't need replacing until they are worn. But a cambelt needs replacing after a certain milage or age.

So forgetting all this and going back to what I asked before:-

How much does it cost to change JUST the cambelt, AND cambelt tensioner AND the idler pulley as Renault recommend?

They do have mileage and age limitations, 35k and two years i think?? Sam will correct me. Its a rubber belt the same as the cambelt, so it also deteriates and also needs changing. If it snaps it can wrap round the crankpully and fetch the timing belt off

Pure ignorance! listen to the advice from the specialist, you know nothing about these cars and they do!

aux belt kit MUST be changed, if it fails it WILL wrap itself round the crank pulley and that = bye bye engine

As Sam says its a big job, we've done hundreds of them! Get a quote from the main dealer for the same thing and it'll be £1K

no specialist will do JUST a cambelt kit change for the reasons stated above

So was my honda civic different then? I guess that was only the cambelt? When at the main dealer that only cost £200 ? (that was a 92 Civic)

How can you compare a 1992 honda cambelt to a renault clio cambelt, 2 completely different cars, just please take the advice from the specialist above

dont know why a specialist (hell the best in the game) is wasting his time on here. you obviously know better katonna, what a cretinous attitude, you know jack about cars but bowl on with attitude.
