So got towed to the renault garage down the road they was shut so left my car around the corner in a random street :( goin back in the morning,
I only bought the car two months ago and it has three months aa gold warrantee soo I think it's covered by the warrantee???

I bloody hope so as its goin to cost me loads :( how much am I looking at getting it done at Renault??

Pretty pissed right now coz waiting to get paid on the 20th so I could get one of the specialist on here to do it for me :(

It'll be fixable, no idea on renaults prices and giving you an estimate is pointless as we don't know the damage.

The aa man said I won't need a new engine??

I thought I'd need a new one to, but he said you can fix it is this not possible??

Bent valves is highly possible, but you can get second hand heads for reasonable money if you need to pay for the work. Just dont pay renault, it'll cost you silly money. Engine will need to come apart to see what the damage is like.

well renault charge near £800 for a routine cambelt and aux belt change. Take a guess from there on, dependant on damage

The only thing is there's not a garage I trust near by that I trust with my car so I'm willing to pay the price for Renault :(

Speak to a specialist on here see what a ballpark figure might be. Transport the car to them. Have a search for similar threads (i know there is quite a few) and see what peoples outcomes were.

Probably double that if its being done by Renault. I'd take it to a specialist and get it sorted in your position. Or if your handy drop a new engine in it yourself. If you are really struggling and want rid as it is give me a shout

If you buy an engine you would do all the belts for safetys sake. more money than needed. I'd go for a rebuilt head or a second hand head, get your belts done at the same time obv, to do it yourself, i'd say under 1k. Specialist on here will the people to speak to. Will be able to point you in the right direction anyway.

Unlucky chap. I don't think you'll any luck with the warranty. I've read the "What's Covered" sections of a few, and they've always said cambelt failure is excluded (due to being a wear and tear / service item).
It makes sense because nobody with a warranty that covered cambelt failure would bother getting a cambelt change.

If you bought from a dealer you might be able to go back and get a contribution towards the cost of the work (which will be well over £1000 I reckon) but your on a bit dodgy ground because a cambelt is a service item, at the end of the day.

bet it would work out cheaper than going to renault still and you know it has definetly been done properly

You've got an entire thread of enthusiasts saying don't go to Renault. Don't go to Renault, we're not saying it for the sake of it.

My local dealership couldn't even tell my 200 apart from a 197. Says it all really.

How much for the rebuild n picking my car up?? Pm me :)

I'm sure he would have to look at the car to give you an accurate quote. My car will be getting it's cambelt when it needs it from Fred. Also my car was broke I was going to get it towed from Dundee which is 80mikes further than Glasgow.

Echo what someone said about going back to the garage u got it from. Engine failure after two months- I'd be wanting a contribution at least.

I agree with this.

On the other hand. The exact same thing happened with my car. Car lost all power but still turned over until i stopped. Fortunately for me i was able to sit the car off the road cos i have a diesel to run about in and do the work on it myself, I feel competent enough though.

I got the car back and got the head off straight away to check the damage. Seen by eye there was 3 bent valves, bottom end was fine, only slight marking on the pistons. Decided not to take the chance and give the head to my local engine specialist (wm anderson's) to check over.

Called me back couple days later and said all 16 valves were bent but the guides were still fine. Got it fixed with 16 new valves and a surface grind (grind was not essential but got a tiny amount removed) cost me just over £400

£400 plus a head gasket kit, belt kits and an oil/coolant change. Lets say its been £750 - £800, i was lucky i didnt need valve guides etc, oh! i did put a set of ED valve springs in as im going to put a set of cams in it. so there was £110

Add to that labour for a garage. specialists may help me out here on amount of hours but would 7 hours labour be sufficient? maybe a bit more?

The culprit of mines was the guide pulley for the cambelt. Plastic broke away from the bearing and caused the belt to slip

Why are you worrying about how much it costs to fix? You said you got it 2 months ago and it had a 3 month warranty, surely the warranty will pick up the bill?

Or am I totally missing the point?

What happens to all the other clios on the roads that arnt on this forum? I wonder were they go to get their belts done....surely these cars will be extinct shortly and it will just be this forum members clios left on the roads....hmmmm

I would imagine the warranty would be worthless as previously mentioned, as the belts are a servicable item that are most likely well overdue.

if your in the aa or rac get them to tow it to a garage. i once broke down 40 miles from home (not as far as you mind) the rac picked me up, took me home, next day i rang them and they towed me to another garage 10 miles away. if youve got full cover then they technically should tow you to the destination of your initial journey.
specialist all day long by the way, just for prices sake. why go somewhere else thatll charge you more for a start.

At that age and mileage, the first thing I'd do when I bought the car would be the cambelt.

Why didn't you?
