Camera help - ISO - exposure

afternoon chaps,

im not to up on cameras, ive got a nikon coolpix 8700.

was at a wedding weekend and had a few troubles.

was great outside but not so good inside. im hopefully gona get this flash soon so this will help for indoors -

ive no idea what ISO means/does but the manual talks about indoors light and outdoors light.

i can set the ISO to 50, 100, 200, 400 and auto

all help welcome?

and heres an indoor pic, the camera was on auto and went into a slightly longer exposure time and everything blured.

i have profiles i can customise on the camera, so just need some help.

ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor in digital cameras.

The same principles apply in film photography - the lower the number, the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain (or background noise as some call it). Higher ISO number settings are generally used in darker situations to get faster shutter speeds.

right so i set ISO to 50 when doing outside photos and 400 when doing indoor photos.

ISO50 to ISO200 outdoors in good to average lighting

ISO200+ indoors

Do bve aware though, the higher the ISO, the more 'noise' you will get
