can a 1.6 civic beat a 1*2 ?

  172 Ph2, Mk1 MX5 1.8
I think we need to clarify here. Some people are obviously talking about the EK9 Type R and others the 1.6 VTi.

If it's the 1.6 Type R EK9 it's not leave you for dead but it's be in front for sure! sub 6 seconds 0-60 and it'd murder a 1*2 in the bends as well!

Total s**t. It cannot do 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds, fact. A stripped out version that's ready to be turned into a racing car might.

Secondly it will not murder a 1*2 in the corners. It may have a LSD (mild one at that) and double wishbone suspension but it's still setup as a road car, has relatively small and slender tyres and is old...

The Integra Type R is a faster, superior handling car to the EK9 and it's very similar in performance terms with the 182. It's amazing what it can do with a 195 section tyre. In straight line terms my friends JDM one only creeps away once into 4th gear.

You really notice the lack of torque in the EK9 with the B16 engine. They really should have popped the B18 in. Definitely hinders the roll on performance and reduces the in gear flexibility.

The EK4 (VTi etc.) would get murdered by a 1*2.

I have massive respect for the attention to detail of the EK9 and ITR. Def. superior cars to the Clio, but no faster.

Go here and FWD to 8min 20seconds. You'll see ITR vs. EK9 in a drag race.

I'm a 1*2 lover btw!!! I just know those EK9's are awesome! 200bhp out of a 1.6 gets a bow from me!

I'd never own one though.

EK9's are 185 bhp fella, EP3's are 200....Well 196 really.

I doubt the 1.6 civic this thread is about is an EK9 because the young lad at the garage would have said its a Type R. It was more likely to have been an EK4 VTI or an EP2 Sport, I doubt any of these wuld keep up with a 1*2 tbh.

henryp off here has 1 with a integra 1.8 type r engine put it this way i was quite far ahead off him and he caught up while i was giving it maximum push they are rapid but not too sure the 1.6 is too fast but good enough for a 1.6

Ek9's dont do 0-60 under 6 seconds either, an EP3 in a drag race with the older EK9 would wn easily....In the bends though the EK9 would leave the EP3.

Not really.

The EP's nearly 200kg's heavier, and only 10bhp up. It's got 40lb/ft more though. They're very close. Torque is the EK's weakness though. Only 116lb/ft.

And the 'Race Base' EK9 has been timed at 5.7s to sixty, at launch. Standard cars were 6.7s.

Im not totally disagreeing with you fella but I owned an EP3 for a few years and being a memeber on vtec forums and going to meets etc I know plenty of EK9 owners, Ive raced quite a few EK's and always won in sprints....Especially at higher speeds, EK9's are deffo better on the twisties though....Torque is also the EP3's weakness.

was having a tyre put on the other day and one of the young lads was admiring the 172 when he turned and said " i like these but they arnt that quick are they" so i said "they aint that bad, not the fastest car in the world but def not the slowest." then he said " my mate has got a 1.6 civic and has raced a few and non of them have ever managed to keep up with him. he just leaves them standing" so i said "thats strange because my mate has a civic type r and i can keep up with him pretty much till about 100" he then asked if id got anything done to it and i said "no just an exhaust and filter but not enough to make a huge difference" and he looked shooked. is he havin me on or do they genuinely "leave us standing" ? the impression i got was that the civic is standard as he didnt say it had anything done to it.

The "young lad" is completely clueless.
