Have you tried your tdc sensor ? I had same thing last week. Would only crank over and not start. Changed out the tdc sensor and now fires up 1st time every time. Just a suggestion anyway.
Could take out the tdc sensor and give it a really good cleaning. It may turn over and start when refitted unless its totally duff. Will only take a few minutes to remove and try. Worth a go at least.
no
it won't stop it starting either
I have not changed it no, I wanted to make sure it was definitely that before soldering wires n stuff and rendering the part non-returnable. There is a spark at the coil pack on all 4 outlets, so I don't know if that means its doing its job correctly or not? Or whether its sparking at the wrong time?
Cheers
If its sparking its got a crank signal.
Can you here the fuel pump prime when you turn the ign on.
As said in your other thread, its probably not TDC if you have a spark. If its sparking and still not firing, then I would put that down to being starved of fuel. But you said in your other thread that is had fuel on the plugs so that doesn't make sense. Are you sure it was petrol on the plugs and not just condensation? You could try removing the injectors + fuel rail (tape up the hole son the manifold) and turn the engine over to see if they are spraying fuel all ok. That would be my next move (leaving the injectors in the rail will tell you if they are all working as well, as 2+ broken ones will stop it from running)
have you checked the compression?
head gasket failures are very rare. Do the injector test and compression test and let us know the outcome
Also please confirm the battery is fully charged and holding charge correctly.
When it fires up for that 1 second or so, how does it sound?
If the engine cranls over with a good spark then forget the tdc for now can you hear the fuel pump buz? smell the exhaust when cranking can you smell petrol???? could be flooded ?? try cranking with full throttle ?Could take out the tdc sensor and give it a really good cleaning. that would make sense as the clattering sound, but not to why it starts for a bit if you let it rest. We really need that video

Sorry for the delay, I have done a video but cannot get it onto youtube for some reason. Have you got an iPhone so I could send it over iMessage? Or shall I send it via E-Mail? Cheers
Sounds a bit like mine did - ive just had mine comp tested over the last few days and mine had no comp in 2 cylinders,
suspect dropped valve/slipped timing,
Did your car die while you was driving it - or just not start one day ???
i wish mine was just a TDC sensor :dapprove:
A lot of people on here have suggested just getting a decent mileaged engine and drop that in,
but tbh I d rathe jut get it fixed but looking between £700-1000 based on what peeps have said on here,
so have to bite the bullet me as not gonna get a decent replacement sport for what I can afford lol
I have a compete engine for sale with brand new genuine Renault belt kit that have done 0 miles that I can deliver to dan! I will take £400+ your old engine in return.
Just get dan to swap them over!
Birchdown are in malpas.
