Can anyone in the South East (T.Wells, Eastbourne, etc.) fit a 182 engine?

  Looking for 182
Hi all, following on from this thread - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=509870&page=2

I need a new engine for my 182, which I have owned for a grand total of 5 weeks.

If I was to source a new engine, are there any individuals out there who would be able to fit it for me please? I can help out where I can, and of course I would pay you.

Please let me know.

Also, what kind of price am I looking at for a new 182 engine?

Daz said £500-800 in that thread.

Personally, I'd get a garage to do it. Go and see a specialist and have it done properly. You might be able to get Bob to do it for a few beers but in a months time when it doesn't feel quite right or or something goes wrong, you're in a whole world of issues. At least with a garage, you can take it back. Plus it looks better when you come to sell it that the engine was fitted by someone reputable.

That's a very good point Revels, about selling it further down the line.

Is it ok to fit a new engine though? Does that not look bad in itself? I just hate the idea that the car is a mix of two cars, if that makes sense?

It's perfectly okay, but you have to remember that you can't test that engine, you can't drive it and see if it feels okay or anything else. Sometimes it's just better the devil you know. Is yours completely dead?

Well if I came to buy your car and it had a new engine fitted by lets say Rentech. Years warranty on it or whatever, then I wouldn't be too bothered. If you said 'Me and my mate did it' I'd be a little more concerned.

I only said £2k in that previous thread because you can get a 182 for £4k now. Granted the miles won't be super low, but £4k for a working car vs a car that is broken and needs a new engine. You might get someone who can do it themselves but to most people, it's a pain.

At this stage, breaking it might be an option. Don't really know what suggest mate. How much did you pay for it?

There's also the fact you don't have to tell someone it's got a new engine. The mileage of the car is related to the shell etc, so you don't have to worry about that. Fit the engine and never tell the buyer. Sorted.

engine is an engine, it's just held in with bolts. Makes no practicable difference by fitting a new one. You dont really have a choice anyway if your current one had gone pop.

I might be able to help. I'll have a word with a friend with a workshop who's closer to you to see if it's do-able

Thanks for the advice all, especially Revels, big help.

The car was bought privately. The mechanic who looked at it today said that he can see metal shards inside the engine. He thinks a valve has come loosed and the pistons have shredded it to pieces, taking the engine with it, or something like that (I'm going to see them tomorrow morning to get a full diagnosis). They cannot confirm without spending a few hours stripping the engine (and £300 odd from me) to check the engine properly, so it COULD be repairable.

I've decided to get the engine replaced if they can confirm a final cost for all the work required. This is the garage in question - http://www.bss-renault.co.uk/
They are really nice people up there, but then again I'm not a mechanic so I have no idea what the quality of their work is like, they fitted a new PAS pump and 4 new tyres for me, and that was all good.
