Yeah, car tells how "low" the rear end is due to extra weight then adjusts the lights accordingly.

I personally think its the xenon light level sensor. One on each axle, its a legal requirement for any car fitted with xenons. (The brake idea is interesting, but not aware that any system like that is in place on these cars)
Looks like a little piece that attachs to the rear torsion bar has broken, should be simple to replace. I'd probably start with a price for the small part from renault, shouldn't be very much.

I'm pretty sure there is a brake load adjuster thing for when you have most crap in the back ?

O right, I must admit I thought the bias was set on the cup because it doesn't have abs, therefore doesn't really need to. I got that impression from the MOT newsletter thats been posted up here a few times in the past.

Anywho, just had a look under my car, a 53 172 Cup and that sensor isn't present, so in this case I'm 99% sure that that item in the pic is the xenon level sensor.

Well he could just turn his lights on and move it up and down, if his lights move question answered.

Just re-read that other thread, he's talking about the re-jigging RS did to stop the rear end locking up in the trust-mark tests that manufacturers have to do. Which in turn gives the cup a silly front brake bias. Something I'll get round to sorting out on mine at some point. Hopefully

Also if it was a brake adjuster all lowered clios would be massively rear biased? Because it would trick the car into thinking it had loads in the boot.

Cheer's men i've just been up to my pal's garage and got it on the ramp's and fixed the sensor thingy it was just missing a screw :D
While it was on the ramp's i had a look at the exhaust and it's solid all the mount's are ok but it still seem's to be hanging very low ???

Its is 110% the xenon level adjuster, there isn't a rear bias valve as its all done via EBD. Being in that position will have made the lights adjust far too high, and yeh the exhaust is mega low.

it is 100% the load level adjuster for xenons, had it replaced on my 182 after I hit a drinks bottle at 100mph.

Matt Black was the only one who knew what it was way back then lol

Very true, and it is definitely the sensor for the xenon auto adjusters. However many cars such as corsas and saxos have a similar system to adjust the brake bias slightly to compensate for extra weight in the back.

Regarding the exhaust it looks like the clamp between the cat and the centre section has come loose, causing the join the slip under its own weight. Buy a new clamp and put some loctite 5920 around the join and tighten it back up, not too tight though!

Mine did that was not going to pay for new one so just made a new end for it for free.
