Can different ECU maps make the induction noise sound different?

Can different ECU maps make the induction noise sound different? I think mine sounds more throaty with the p&b map but i'm not sure it its all in my head? Is its even possible?!

Well if one wasnt opening the electronic throttle fully for example then yes, otherwise its unlikely to change the intake noise unless they were massively different (ie one was just totally wrong and making the engine run toss)

Ok I have just done a test with both maps and the induction on the p&b map definitely sounds louder/more predominant on the induction front when compared to the RON98 map. What I noticed was that the decat sounds less tiny/metallic with the p&b map, which may be why i'm thinking the induction sounds better (as its not being ruined by the horrid tiny/metallic sound). I did some live traces whilst driving around, not sure if anyone can notice anything that may be relevant to this?

RON98: http://bridgemantechnologies.co.uk/misc/RSTuner_LD_2013-06-10_15-53_RON98.csv
P&B: http://bridgemantechnologies.co.uk/misc/RSTuner_LD_2013-06-10_16-00_P&B.csv

an obvious thing that spring to my mind is that the p&b map is obviously designed for use with a decat, does anyone know if the RON98 is the same or is it programmed to work with a cat?

Did you notice any performance difference? Ive got both but not bin bothered to try the difference properly yet ;p

oddly enough yes, I can feel a performance difference. The p&b map feels like it has more bottom end torque than the ron98 map.

Please can you datalog on the RS tuner and for a given RPM (lets say 5Krpm) look at the following values in particular:
Throttle angle
Ignition timing
Fuel injector duty cycle

(i cant remember the exact names in the rs tuner, but should be obvious enough)

timing and fuelling can have a pretty marked effect on exhaust noise, but not normally on induction unless its a massive difference.

yep, I will go do it now. How long do I need to run the log for at those revs and is this a stationary or whilst moving test (I assume stationary)?

No time at all, an instantaneous reading is fine.
Under full load, so its at the time you actually hear the noise difference.

Just do a log, then click to the same point on both logs, and screenshot with those parameters on.

Ok will go do it now. thanks chip.

Ok chip, not sure I have covered everything that might be relevant, but here's the results at 4 different RPM's. I did it a bit lower then 5K as its most noticeable between 2 and 3K rpm:

Well on your 2 versions of the map the P&B one is very slightly leaner, and has a bit less ignition advance.

TBH I am surprised that either effect is really enough to hear, 1 degree isnt a massive change especially as these engines arent massively ignition sensitive in the first place, and the difference in AFR will be only half a AFR at 2K rpm where the biggest difference is and far less than that elsewhere.

I cannot offer you an explanation as to why those two would sound different enough to notice I am afraid mate!

Ok, thanks for you help chip. Its interesting considering the maps are supposed to be the identical bar the overrun on higher revs!
