Can I replace a clio engine with a megane ??

Hi guys I was wandering if anyone can help. I have a 2000 clio 1.4 sport with a very ill engine. I was told that a megane 1.4 engine could be also be fitted instead of a replacement clio engine is this true, if so some general advice on how to go about it would be great thanks !!

Seems pointless to replace it with a Meg engine of exactly the same size and probably same power output.

I think he's trying to find out if a megane 1.4 engine is the same so he can look for a megane 1.4 or clio 1.4 engine to replace his broken on giving him twice the scope.

DrRollo is right. Basically I'll cut through the BS. I was and still am after a 2000 clio 1.4s 16v engine. I thought I treied everywhere and eventually contacted a renault spedcialist breakers. I was told by the breakers that they are the same engine. On his advice i bought the engine and had it delivered to my local garage. After 1 month of sitting in the garage my mechanic looked at the engine and told me that its not the same. I told him what the renault specialist breaker told me but he was having none of it. I contacted the specialist who said that for him to investigate I had to quote the paper work that came with the engine, unfortunately my local mechanic said that no paper work came with it. Both parties aint budging and its me in the middle.So in short I have a 1.4 16v engine for my clio but need advice on 1) My mechanic is wromg and it will fit or 2) He is right and the renault breaker has swindled me and wont take the engine back.

Thanks Danlp6 for your help and I am starting to believe that the mechanic at my local garage does'nt know what he's talking about.

Do you or anyone alse have an opinion why he might think that they are different, I mean I have seen the engine and it looks different thats why I was inclined to believe him, something about the engine being the wrong way around was what he told me ? I havent got a clue to be honest

any thoughts ???

how different does it look? the engines are usually the same, though if its a later one, it'll have a different inlet manifold though they are usually interchangeable.

check the engine numbers, the prefix should be the same i.e K7M***(i think thats the code)

They are the same engine assuming they are both the 16v version, the look very alike. Do you know what year the megane was, They did the megane with the 1.4 8v before 2000 which is a completly different engine, although in theory should still fit.
