Can my RSi run T/Bs?.......

  Clio 1.8 8v RSi
Hello, im a little rusty on throttle bodies so im here askin...is it possible to throttle body an 8v car?

If so, how much is it gonna be? Im guessing about £3000? I do love my RSi but im at the stage of wanting abit more power...

Any help most appriciated, cheers

Idont know which way the inlet manifold sits on that clio.

I toyed doing this when my shhhhhoooiiit pierberg carb kept messing me about on my scirocco 1.8 8v GTII the inlet manifold on that was facing the bulkhead so the carbs would be very very close and with sock filters would touch the bulkhead, also the back of the engine compartment would be bad for heat soak too, you really want the ram stacks facing the front of the car for better air flow and ram air effect.

That's my limited knowlege of the subject.

I'm sure there's an eaiser way to looooads more power on your car for £3k than with ITB's. Supercharger from a Mini Cooper S perhaps?

the inlet is on the back of the RSi and is integrated (ish) with the exhaust

not sure how you'd over come that, having the inlet and outlet on one side

Yeh there is, but its ment to be hell of a hard job!? I need to stop dreamin! Id never be able to afford it either way :(

tbh, strip it. it's free and it will make it go faster

....Already done that, am fitting a chip soon too, ill be happy enough with it then i hope!

nah make it hardcore, take out carpets, all soundproofing, trim etc.

looking good though

Yeah, sounds like a plan! Seen a few cars ere n there fully stripped, will give it a bash in the week! And then get some pics posted, what you think about the wood in the boot? In or out?

Oh and what trim do you mean exactly?

And another thing, what soundproofing? :D I love the sound of all the details on the road! :)

Saxo's have throttle boddies at the back and work well with a bit of heat shield lol. They even get a left hand drive wiper conversion so the wiper gets out of the way of the trumpets

I was halfway though doing a throttle body conversion on my 106. its not as expensive as you think if you do alot of the work yourself. you can buy a set of motorbike throttle bodies of ebay or at a scrapys for a bout 80 quid. there are loads to choose from! then you need to get a different inlet manfold made up to suit the inlet ports of the bodies to the inlet ports on the head. Boggbrothers is a place that can do this (the inlet manifold for the 106 to R6 bodies is 188quid). then when everything is fitted your gona need a re-map or a standalone ecu. The ecu i was going to use is called megasquirt, it can be remapped by yourself from a laptop. these are about 350quid. as for setting them up your going to have to think what you want out of the car. If you want most of the power down in the low rev range then the closer the injectors are to the inlet valve the better, if you want more power higher up the rev range then the injectors have to be closer to the butterfly valve in the bodies. with megasquirt you can have interchangable maps so it switches from using 4 injectors to 8 for a good power range. Throttle bodies also work well with other mods such as 4-2-1's and a big cam. I got most of the way with my conversion and the only reason i sold the car was because i test drove a clio. lol. also i was finding it quite annoying modding up my main car. sorry for the mamoth read but i hope it helpped a bit. lol. :)
oh yeah you can put bodies on an 8 valve. the 106 was a 1.4 8 valve. lol:)

take out anything non essential. carpets, wood? door trims, electric windows, headlining etc. soundproofing is either thick wadding stuff under the carpets or black tar type stuff stuck to panels.

PS when i gutted my 205 for a stockcar it weighed 400kgs with engine (no windows and totally stripped)

cheapest bhp per pound has always got to be nitrous, but use at your risk!

i got about 65 more horses out of mine, but it wasn't cheap!

its fairly straight forward, but ideally you need a whole donor car, otherwise you'll forever be buying little bits

easier to buy a valver

Tbh throttle bodying the car will be easyer than turboing it. all your doing is replacing the 1 butterfly valve with 4. you'l get an extra 25bhp for a well set up set of bodies. plus they sound the dogs!!!

yes, but its not that simple with the RSi as I've said.. the inlet and exhaust manifolds are on the same side, which could cause issues

Bogg brothers will make one up so it misses everything. it was a tight squeeze fitting bike bodies in a 106! the inlet track has to be a minimum of 31cm from valve head to trumpet mouth. it all depends on what sort of budget someone has when fitting these. you can make a base plate to fit to the head then have samco hosing from that to the bodies. this way you can cut the hose to and make brackets to miss everything. obviously it is alot more work than buying a bolt on kit but if you like messing about then just have a go. lol
