Aren't kids safer in the back of the car?

They certainly are safer in the back of the car but when you driving on your own an your 6 week old daughter is crying an you can't pull over the last place you want her is in the back hence the thread an most cars have passenger seat airbag disabling equipped after a certain year but by the sounds of things the ph1 doesn't safely

You can only de-configure airbag components IF they aren't plugged in to the CanBus.

The SRS module is self adapting and is always looking at the trigger lines to monitor for changes. If it see's a change that takes something away from the original configuration the MIL is triggered. If however you add something new it will normally accept and update the units configuration.

Basically you can permanently de-configure the passenger bag but you will need to unplug it physically before attempting to clip it.

Fantastic info Mick.

So if he wants the airbag not to able to go off, he needs to unplug it, which will have the side effect to put the light on, but that can then be turned off again in clip.

Exactly that, yes - I believe its a dash top off job though to get to the two connectors on the passenger unit and I always advise you use clip to put the system into work safe mode first but you'd probably get away with just unplugging them.
