  Mint 1*2's for sale-
A specialist on here can do it all in 575/600 with dephaser pulley

You are paying £500 for parts ( INC VAT ) for parts that can be supplied for £350 on here.

Take it down to BTM or over to Birchdown or Mick @ Diamond.

I don’t know if the dephaser needs doing, I’m yet to check the YouTube videos to see! however I have a buzzing noise from the left side (if say in the driver’s seat) which sounds like a massive mosquito!

Without trying, £708 (£590.28+VAT) using all Renault parts no aftermarket kits, warranted and with an oil & filter(*) change.

If you're in Crewe TCR Midlands, Fred BTM or Mick at Diamond are all well known. I have personal experience of Diamond and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.. Well worth driving a few miles extra imo

I'd be taking it to one of the specialists off here like MickPM and save yourself a fair few quid.

The Traders section should be one of the first places you look when you need anything doing to or for your car

Just out of interest is there any specialists that can offer a service just to look over the car and recommend possible work to keep the car alive? it may be that none of the above is needed as the history does say it was done at 67k, its at 86ish now

What does the receipt say?

It's hard to tell when a belt was last changed or if it has been changed.

If in doubt just get it done along with the dephaser.

Due every 72k miles OR 5 years. Whichever comes first. So technically yours should be ok.

Worth getting it checked over at a specialist before putting out 500+ quid.

I paid 714 at my local renault garage on my 172.

Pay 2 thirds the value of the car for a cambelt, guess I will drive mine till it breaks then.

If you plan on keeping the car then id get it done tbh, going to be a hassle when it does go bang and your sitting at the side of the motorway or something and have to get recovered then break/sell the car.. then get a new car :l

You mean a health check? I imagine most will offer this! MicKPM

Yep but it's not cheap... £180+VAT

It takes around 4hrs but the timing belt condition is a visual check only so no warranty is implied or given!

Christ, I didn't realise it was in the 700 area with a new dephaser.

Mines due in December this year, only done 15k on the new belt too, I think I'll probably drive it till its time to get it changed and then sell up.

Spending 700 on the belts is a lot on a car that's not worth much more than a g.

Try selling with belts due and car will be devalued.. Selling with belts done demonstrates that car has been well maintained..
Also having them done by a specialist is another plus!

Well.. how is it a good idea?

What idea? Driving it till it breaks? Thats what i am doing. Its 10 years old, i've had it for 4 of them. Had my moneys worth from it so if it explodes...it explodes. If something needs fixing i fix it. But if the engine blows up, so what, because of people on this forum clios 1*2's are now worthless and i can buy another for about a grand

Why would you need to buy another when you could just get your belts etc done for 6/800 quid? At least you would know pretty much everything about the car, all its niggles etc and you'd know its good for another few years!

Just find it a bit odd.

Personally i wouldnt buy another clio, just saying you could buy a whole working one for not much more than the belt price.

The only cambelt problems i read on here are after people have had them changed or the auxbelt failing.

Yeh I understand that. But I doubt it will devalue it by 700 quid, especially if the new owner has got the locking tools to do the change himself.

My worry is that If I spend 700 quid I've not got on a new cam, aux and dephaser , knowing my luck I'll drop a valve a week later lol.

I can see it from both sides especially when you can pick up an engine with belts done for £500 lol

Hm, after reading all the above, and given the car only me £1100 with belts possibly done at 67k (receipts say so £550+ service) I think I may just go with it as I intend to be the last owner before either scrapping or breaking! as long as its well serviced and looked after it should do me well I hope.

Pretty sure you'd count the belts as part of servicing.

Glad I have my car now and not in a few years, the amount of shitbox's will be ever increasing with views like this lol.

Each to their own :)
