Can you turn esp off but leave tc on?

  R53 Cooper S
yes i know that now, the light gets turned on when in the car unless really wet or icy:S

^^ this is when you want to turn tc off (light will come on)

maybe its just mine that kicks in when it shouldnt, like i said going up a steep hill in 2nd with esp on it didnt like it started to flicker and lost too much power

mate, i think you're getting tc and esp mixed up, it's the tc that kills the power to the front wheels when they start to spin up, it nearly caught me out last week when pulling out from a junction when it was icy, obviously in your case, having s**t tyres won't help either.

esp, you won't really notice unless you drive like a loon, if you manage to get the back end out, the esp will try and drag the car back into line by braking the wheels independantly.

What a lousy f**king attitude to take when you take everyone elses lives into your hands by getting into your car and driving like a w**ker. One of the consequences I guess of fast cars getting cheaper is scrotes can afford them...

With a bit of luck you'll get locked up for dangerous driving, before it turns into death by dangerous driving. Unfortunately I get the impression you think you're Michael Schumacher because you've driven for 10 years and it would be all everyone elses fault except your own...
+1
No doubt the next post from this guy will be the "clio in a hedge" type..

iirc ESP measures the steering angle of the steering wheel (and i belive the force with which you turn it) as well as the angle at which the wheels of the car are turned, and if the car isnt steering as directly as your steering angle suggests (e.g, swerving from an accident) it corrects the wheels by turning them to the more effective angle?

iirc of course

TC limits power when the front wheels spin, and IIRC ESP can tell if your steering input and the line the car takes don't match up and applies brakes and possibly limit power to get you back on/close to the line you intended.

s**t tyres will need TC if you drive like an animal, but TBH tyres are the most important bit of the car, never skimp on those and get them sorted ASAP. With good tyres, you have to abuse it to get the TC to kick in. Its not really needed at all in the Clio, and TBH, ESP isn't either if you can drive, it's not hard to correct a bit of understeer or lift-off oversteer. If you're getting loads of understeer and oversteer with good tyres, you need to back off the right pedal and be easier with the steering wheel.

Oh, I found TC useless in snow/icy conditions, just be gentle with the accelerator.

basic terms here in english,

no light on the dash = tc on = if front wheels lose grip it will cut power and do that judder thing and the light will flash a bit
no light on the dash = esp also on = if you f**k it up the electronic stability program measures various bits and bobs and can apply braking to certain wheels to try and stop you ending up in a hedge.

light on = tc is off
light on = esp is off

abs is always on

for road use unless your system is f**ked leave the light off its not very intrusive at road speeds. track use mine is always turned off i think esp is dangerous on track and has only one thing on its mind and thats killing you. however its a road based system and not track orintated so can't complain, thats why it has a button.

leave it turned on, ie light off and ask father christmas for some tyres especially with the current weather conditions.

all the above is just my thoughts though im not a mechanic
