Canon 700D Setup. Whats Wrong?

Evening,

Current us a Nikon J1 for work and its a very good, simple point and shoot. In auto its brilliant but the lens wasn't wide enough.

Just bought a Canon 700D with a 10-18mm wide angle lens.

Every time I take a photo in auto the whole image is really dark. Even if the room is bright it darkens the image massively, which hides the detail.

Am I being stupid and doing something wrong?

I am no way an expert so any pointers would really help.

the Aperture Value seems quit high at 4.97, other than that i can't see anything wrong. Could be the Expossure Compensation. make sure it's set at 0 , could be set to make the image darker than what it is

Everything looks alright I think from the exif.
You haven't got a filter on there have you @eugegall? That could throw things off.
Did you buy new or second hand?
Shoot using AV at 10mm f/4. Then TV at 1/125th. Make sure iso is on auto. Then try each of the scene modes and full auto.
All on the same subject in daylight. Things should be adjusted automatically to suit.
