Car been broken into

Got woken up by the Mrs. at stupid hours this morning with one of the worst things you can hear as a car owner - your car's been broken into

Went outside, passanger's window has been completely smashed and all over my seats, stereo's gone and the cheeky c**ts have taken my rear seats down and got the sub from my boot. Looks like they had a good nosy in my glovebox too but found nothing, just glad my car's still here tbh.

I know I should have taken the stereo with me but I just got unlucky.

Would people advice not going through the insurance and paying it myself? I have paid quite a hefty amount for my insurance so I don't think it'd be worth it to lose my no claims discount for this year, just want a few more opinions on this pleeeeease!

Now I just need a new window, can anyone recommend anything other than going to a car window place? Can I use one off somebody breaking a Clio for example?

Just call autoglass. £60 iirc poss free in your policy.

Cheers lads, I wasn't gonna call my insurance at first as I thought it might count as 'an accident or loss in the past 3 years' or whatever they ask, no point telling them about my HU and sub even though about 400 quids worth of stuff has been nicked the joys of being young ey?

I'll give them a ring in a bit, hopefully they'll sort something for me.

It's very gutting but there's nothing I can do really. At least I've kinda learnt a lesson about leaving stuff in my car.

Would it be worth going to the police? There were a few prints on my car but most of them would have been from me probably, thing is though in the area it was left in, probably 90% of them will have their prints at the police station already. Chav scum!

TBH there is a sligh positive to it, they could of ripped your door open to get in, the police told me that it's quieter for them to get in than smashin the window...Windows 60quid a new door however!

What I do now if I'm leaving the car anywhere:

Remove fascia and take it with me
Empty glovebox and leave it open
Hide anything else that has to be left in the car under the seats etc

Sorry to see mate. Its most probably because they saw your aftermarket HU. Thats the reason i've never changed mine because it attracts trouble unfortunately.

Even if you take the front off they just presume that it is in the glovebox which with me most probably would be.

I did, they acted like they were really interested in finding my stuff, then I heard nothing for about 2 weeks and got a letter saying the case had been put on file

May as well report it, never know if they'll find your stuff.

i dont know how it feels, but my mate is in the same boat. Monday his car was broken into, they took his sub, headunit and even his wheels, left it on bricks. right outside his house :\

Mine was broke into last year and they took my nintendo DS and the Fascia off my stereo (but not my stereo :S )..

They did this to my mates car in liverpool. They crow barred it open when we were sat in the front room opposite with the window ajar so yea it's pretty quiet.

What took the piss was that when he checked, he hadn't even locked it. C**ts.

My first car was broken into, the b@stards nicked the parcel shelf with the speakers. Didn't bother with the s**t stereo or my cassettes though hahaha.


I never leave anything in my car and always take off the HU fascia.

I lost just over 2Ks worth of ICE when I was 18, I was GUTTED. They crowbared the door open, from the front!

They crowbared the boot open, the car was in the bodyshop for 4 weeks and in the end the insurance company wrote it off as they realised that the shell was buckled where they bent the drivers door from the front, great.....

LOL, my grandad did that to his mates in the army when he used to drive the rations vans! Very true that, I'm getting a decent alarm asap which will hopefully deter any future bellends.

I'm thinking of getting one with a proximity sensor, so when they look into it it gives a little beep to deter them. I think I'll get a little flashing sign put on the windscreen too!
