How did you get the filter off? I've tried loads, chain tool etc. and it just squashes it.

If it's really tight try to un-do it a touch by hand (obviously not a big turn, so that oil comes out) that ought to make it easier for when the oil is hot & you change it.

But if Renault recommend 12k then I'm sure they're saying that on the side of caution and could probably do another good few 1000 without damaging it. Waste of time doing it every 6k or 6 months imo.

It does vary on situation and as been said, driving habbit.

It'll take me nearly two years to do 12k on average and do relatively short journeys as well.

As the oil isn't able to get up to optimum temp it'll have a harder job of lubricating the engine therefore wont last as long.

12k or 12 months is fine in normal situations but like I said, Engine oil and a new filter is inexpensive in regards to car maintenance so I'd rather err on the side of caution.

For the price of oil and the time it takes to do it it isn't worth the arguement, and if you have ever smelt the difference of old oil and fresh oil you woukd not what I mean x

But fully synthetic oil is designed to last those kind of miles driven hard or not. There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting it last 12k or 1 year.

Definitely change the oil. I've had mine done at 36k, 48k and probably will at 60k too. The 36k change made the 'box far more supple and smooth, imo. Plus the idea of minute shavings floating around the box since new, didn't help!

normal 12k intervals are fine til you get to high mileage, like 100k+ imo. Then 7k is wise again imo.

When you buy the oil buy some engine flush too,you should flush the engine through everytime you change the oil

NEVER use engine flush on a Renault!!

nothing wrong with frequent oil changes, just means your engine will last longer, and effectively the performance will be retained for longer.

I would say it's pointless changing the oil without changing the filter, to access the oil filter, use a deep 10mm socket to remove the fuel rail guard, get some oil filter grips to remove it, much safer than stabbing a screw driver in the side!
Make sure you replace the copper washer on the sump plug too, and ensure the car is on level ground so you can avoid over filling and damaging the engine.

Handy little tip, if you cant get the filter off and dont have access to a strap, drive a fcuk off driver through it, easy leaverage there

ok well im not sure what material it is, not sure I'm entirely bothered, but it is copper on a lot of cars, and the point I was getting at is it is important to change the washer to avoid leaks.
