car lunging to right under heavy braking

  Chocolate Bar™
cars done this a few times so was looking at things i could look into fixing.

basically when i slam on the brakes on a few occassions the car has stepped out to the right from the rear and wanted to go into the next lane. first coupe of times i thought it was due to the conditions, but now im sure it must be the car.

the only thing i can think of is that the rear right is higher than the left side due to the springs settling a bit dodgily and the left being lower. so if i adjusted the damper to a softer/harder setting could this help?

opinions welcome please :)

that was a thought. tbh not really sure what id be checking for, so might leave it until my fronts need changing which wont be long and get them all looked at in one go

The caliper pistons are well known to stick. this combined with the camber of the road will cause it to do what you describe.

You can get exchange calipers for £45 each you need to ideally change them both.

thanks for that jon :)

will get some pads and discs sorted and then look at exchanging the caliper

on the cheap you could try cleaning the caliper up, new pads grease on the slider see if that works.

Mine does this but not all the time so I presumed it was the camber in the road.

Would this have been picked up on a 36k service if there was anything wrong ?

You in a straight line when you break? Hard braking when not straight on can and does result in a shift of weight, and can pitch the car, I found myself looking out of the side window on occasion in the 172

yeah was on a straight, and last night did it twice when i was heading straight towards a roundabout lol

need pads and discs on the front so ill have to get it sorted when i swap them over
