Car Stereo Installers - Herts/Beds/Bucks

  Golf R
Can anyone recommend some decent in this area that would be able to fit a car stereo, front components and rear speakers?

Yellow Pages doesn't really bring up many companies so i'm really after some recommendations for someone suitable before having to take a gamble and use someone new.

They don't necessarily have to be mobile, i'm happy to travel

I used to do this sort of thing (for Hellfrauds as a part-time job, for my sins), but have no specific knowledge of the 182.

I can't imagine it is something that, on a clio is overly arduous to do though. Why not wait until the Flying Fox and I'll have a look over it with you? I may be able to save you a few quid.

If not then I am sure there are decent fitters in MK.

The only problem with the Clio is that with front components the tweeter is in the dash and the mid is in the door which would be fine if you could get cable into the door easily, which you can't as the grommet which goes to the door has a plug on the body end.
One way is you have to drill the plug out in an unused area of it and feed the wire through which is a pain in the arse, other than that standard stuff.

Why can't you remove the mid's and just replace them with the new mids. Remove the tweeters and replace them with the new tweeters and then at the stereo end figure out which wires correspond to the relevant speaker and attach the crossovers accordingly? Just easier to use the standard cabling in that case.

Theres no crossover in the system unfortunately, the tweeter is connected somewhere in the dash to the same cable that runs to the mid and theres a cap on the tweeter to act as a filter.

If you can find where the tweet is connected (shouldn't be too difficult just trace the wires) then you could cut that section out and replace it with a crossover then replace the tweeter and mid without running any extra cable, i've considered doing it that way. The only problem is that you'd have to be careful with cutting or you'd have to leave the components in.

There are no good installers any more, simply because the cost of the equipment is so low with no profit for the dealers and labour costs, rents, insurance, rates, business taxes, etc, etc.have gone up consistantly.
So nobody wants to pay £85 per hour to cover these overheads.
This is the result of "cheap" equipment, shagged out by the clicks and mortar sellers on Ebay and by mail order in mags like Max Poor.

Those that still offer the service are now doing top end only, The Bently and Range Rover market is still quite good, but for how long.

You cant blame them really, how would you feel if you were a builder and someone came to you and asked you to build a house using bricks and timber you had bought cheap on Ebay.

The sex and travel answer would probably feature.

valid points about the lack of decent people about to install, i used to know of a few companies in my area but they don't exist anymore

cheers fella, reckon it'll wait til then so that'd be appreciated. will also try these people in aylesbury tomorrow and pick their brains about the changing of tweeters issue, thought it'd be quite an easy straight swap :S

about to buy, although if it's gonna be a hassle to fit them might just go for normal speakers and leave the existing tweeters. have found a pretty good deal on some Infinity Reference 5012 for the back and either some Infinity Reference or Kappa components for the front. however, might just go for 5012's all round

Incar Audio File in Bishop's Stortford. Got all the stuff for my old car and a h/u for the Clio from there. Top quality service and they know what they are doing. Can be a bit pricey though but the service you get is worth it imo.
