Carbon Cansiter

So after a little research I think my Carbon canister is spent.
What does it do and can I unplug it?
The noise is only there on idle and comes back after 10 seconds or so after being revved

Remove it, leave the cap plugged in and vent the hose from the tank to air. You can put a one way valve on it if you want

Thanks, I assume I have to take a wheel arch out to get to it?
