Cat C Clio

  2000 clio 1.4 sport
Sold my coupe ages ago as I can no longer afford the insurance now that I have a DR10.

Its a 2001 renault clio 1.4 sport, 49000 miles, ins group 3. It started out like this:

Cost me £700 from ebay, O/S isnt shown but was pretty badly damaged, alot worse than the listing made out. I got quotes from bodyshops to do the whole lot and didnt get much under £2000. Anyway, set about finding parts myself and through much patience found a doner car in the correct colour and got the bonnet, grille, bumper, crossmember, slam panel, radiator, wing, door and rear bumper for £250! Got a garage to fit it all out and straighten up what needed to be. I got my license back the other day, Its just had its mot and went through fine and all thats needed is a VIC and i'm back on the road whoop! I've been polishing in anticipation, here she is:

Took quite some effort, had been standing for nearly a year and the doner car had been standing for years. I was going to use clay bar but didnt realise it was £25! As it was I got some turlewax 'wash and wax' and t-cut for silver cars. Interior needed a good going over too, previous owner must have been a right mucky git!

Lots planned for this puppy, watch this space

Yeah drives perfect mate although could be smother as the rear engine/gearbox mounts needs replacing.

Yeah its funny, you cant tell the different shade when looking at it in the flesh. Still, it was never going to be perfect for that price and i'm chuffed witht he result

vic check is piece of piss mate, around £30 and you wait for 20 mins whilst some "inspector" looks around the car and checks numbers. You'll get your pass certificate then it's off to get your logbook and tax.

Looks pretty smart. My gf's cat c write off was pretty much the samge damage... front bumper, n/s/f wing, n/s/f door, cross member and flitch + new wheel. Inc the car probably cost me total of £700-800 (needed a new battery too) so you haven't done bad.

Nice one. Yeah i think the VIC is more to inspect the vehicles identity rather than fix job which is good. Still a right hassle though lol
