caught fire at lunch

  don't
ok not a clio but another french engine area fire

work mates V reg 206 caught fire at lunch

not seen it for myself, sounds like it's gone up around the alternator area, possibly something has caught something it shouldn't or rubbed somewhere and then the alternator has gone up

only on fire for about 20 seconds, luckily someone near by had a fire extinguisher to put it out and then fireservice turned up

damage to the bonnet aswell from the heat so needs a 2nd hand bonnet and alternator/wiring to be fixed

be interesting to see what the cause is

quoted £1400 as the wiring loom has been damaged, so its going through insurance

her insurance said they will pay for all repairs but not for the alternator or the labour on that as its wear and tear

apparently a wire came loose from the alternator and touched something and it all went up,

she rang peugeot and they just said that if the insurance wont pay for the alternator to get the company to ring peugeot as they said its a wiring problem not wear and tear

  ST on the way...
I can't remember wether it was a problem with the 206's or 307's but I do remember there was a problem with the ingition barrell on a few thousand cars.

Basically when you turned the engine on, it didn't disengage the starter which then got hot and eventually caught fire.

well it's been written off

valued at £3100 or something like that, she paid £3400 not long ago, a month or two

they knocked some money off for dents and then £100 excess, then said it was a mechanical fault and knocked £220 off because they said the alternator was at fault

Problem with american Fords too.

'Car giant Ford has issued a mass recall of over 1.2 million trucks and other heavy vehicles over fears their engines may pose a fire hazard.

In one of the biggest ever recalls in corporate history, owners of Ford SUVs, pick-up-trucks and vans are being urged to return their vehicles due to faults present in their speed control deactivation switch systems.

An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) led experts to fear engines in many of the company's heavy vehicles are at risk of overheating and igniting due to corrosion.

Ray Nevi, assistant director of the Ford Automotive Safety Office explained: "Following last year's recall, we indicated further analysis would continue to determine what vehicle characteristics were contributing to the potential for switch leakage.

"After a year of intensive research, including working with NHTSA engineers, we have concluded that certain factors on the affected vehicles may lead to the switch overheating."

The recall comes after Ford reported second-quarter losses of $254 million (£135 million) as orders fell and pensions costs rose.

Ford vehicles with diesel engines would not be affected by the recall, the carmaker said'
