changed gearbox, wont start, bad smell

think Ive blown the starter motor. car primes up ok but when I try to start I get a noise like when the battery is dying, lights dim but doesnt turn over. after a few goes I checked under the bonnet and there was a nasty electrical smell and the starter seemed to be humming.

any thoughts?

Checked the fuses? Any lights flashing, earths all hooked up back up?

2 earth straps on ok. I've a horrible feeling the flywheel is jammed or something which would make me kill myself at the thought of having to take the box out again.

did you unwire the starting motor or just unbolt it and move out the way

Completely removed it. Defo back on tight tho.

TDC sensor fitted right?

I did have this connector "left over" if that makes a difference

Next plan is to remove the starter, and check if the flywheel can be turned by hand. If it cant Ive f**ked up the box fitting and jammed the flywheel tight
