changed my plugs and battery

  1.5dci
my clio 1.2 03reg has been sat for a year, - the battery wanted changing, but she started fine after a jump.

anyhow, i subsiquently, today went and brought a new battery, plugs filters and oil for her,

the oil being done tomorrow,

anyhow, after changing the battery ( the fitting was diffrent so i pulled it off lol so ima have to change that. ) anyways, changed the battery, and then the plugs - everything which i thought was fine but there seems to be a problem, she now wont start.

so after holding the broken ish old battery connector to the new battery ( the other connector being fine so that went right on ) i then got my gf to tern her over, there was definate power from the batery because the dash all lit up, said everything was fine, but nothing at all from the engine.

this has puzzled me as ive brought the right plugs for the car and they fit.

is there any specific thing ive done wrong here altho i did notice number 2 plug looked slightly higher in the fitting then the other 3 plugs ? even then i know cars will start on 3 cilinders., as my mates r5 did. ( yeah it sounded a sack of s**t mind )

so guys what is the problem ? do i need to put the leads into the correct order or anything ?

if it helps i used
Bosch +8 Super Plus Spark Plug x4 the ones halfords recomended to use by my reg plate - not only that, the starter motor fires, but its just nothing after that. im half temped to give me old ones a clean up n stick them back in to see what the hell is wrong

Have you replaced the leads in the same places you removed them from. If not it won't start as it will be sparking the wrong cylinder.

well havent figured out how to edit the posts yet, anyway, i just made sure all the leads are in the correct numberings, seeing as they are numbered. but im definatly sure somthings up with number 2 plug - she dont seem to wanna go down the hole all the way, and i dont wanna force her - seeing as i sorta tryed to put her on with the paper covering first before realising.. im thinking this has somthing to do with it .. maybe some paper is stuck in the thread ?

I know you said the starter motor "fires" so is the engine turning over. If it is I would expect it to start if there was only an issue with one plug. Did you check the spark plug gaps before you installed them. If the gap is incorrect the car will turn over but the spark will be too weak.

spark plug gaps ?

shes not terning over at all pal, only the starter fireing n thats all. ( im a budding enthusiast i know :p and alot to learn. ) anyhow, yeah i no nothing of these gaps, only that the ones halfords said to get, which i presumed they'd be just an instant swap over. clearly not :(

so if you care to explain these gaps for me ?

Google "spark plug gap" and all will become clear. If I try to explain without pictures I will just confuse you. Some plugs come pre gapped but in my experience they are often out by some distance. You will need to know the specific gap required for your engine in order to check the ones you have are correct. I would put the old ones back in first just to make sure the plugs are the problem. when the starter motor engages is it turning the engine over or can you just hear the starter motor spinning.

  Trophy Turbo :)
i bet you have nocked the Inercia Swith next too the battery its a RED button, press that in and try again, NO way that a plug woudl stop it turning mate, Its either a Earth or the Imob is stayting on, does the light flash really fast on the dash. Try removing the earth from battery put key in ignision and turn it on, then put the battery earth back on see if that works.

Its defo not a spark plug issue

u said one off the hd leads was slightly higher than the overs..... u will have a ruber ring insidemake sure that they have not slipt on to the plugs this could be cousing it not to go down.... if so then 2 option's remove plug and refit ruber ring to hd lead OR just force it on to the plug works on mine and never have any problems.

How much were the plugs m8te ?

If your plugs are the bosch super 4 ones dont try and change the gap on them.. you cant really change the gap very accurately on multi electrode plugs.

ok guys, i changed the plugs back to the old ones and still funnily enough the same problem,

i cand seem to find this immobilisor button your on with, but im gonna google it-
and, because its not firing at all a friend of mine is led to belive ive put the plugs on wong, altho i cant have, due to it being numbered 1 - 4 on the leads. 4 being the shortest and closest to the altinator, 1 being on the battery side and plus that lead is longer

lol :D ok, well i propperly pushed them together, ( and she started :p THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!! ) only problem i had was, getting the old battery off, i had to snap the terminal off, due to it being stuck! looks like this baby has never seen a new battery - seeing as it was the original ... so for an 8 year old car its seen bettery days, still i appreciate all the advice given

any idea's where i can get a new battery connection from ? shes going in for some bodywork repair and some spraying in a few weeks, ( never had a smash, just stupid things that i want fixing like my wing cracked, so i got a new 1, cracked the front bumper too so thats gonna be a fix, dent in the boot lid ( long story ) and the retarded woman who owned it before me left some little bumps in the bonnet from where she shut it! )

if i had a camra atm, i'd show you how s**t the connector was, its so corroded - thats somthing i never looked at really is the mechanics of stuff, but seeing as i had to snap it off the old battery, and now it doesnt connect to the new one, im sure as hell going to need another - and if you seen the bodge lol - it was a screwdrive4r wedged in between these 2 bits of metal, then holding the connector tight to the terminal. it worked.

anyway, hunt for a new connector begins now :) cheers for all the help and resolutions guys :)

ok, so after abit of playing, and leaving her to tick over for about half an hour or so, im finnally round to figuring out my problem thanks to you guys - ok heres some pictures of the problem.

direct link: http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff275/ben_init1/P1010015.jpg

as you can see, the red wire fitting has snapped from this other fitting that went rouund the terminal it was corroded to hell - the other problem i have is undoing the nut from the rest of it, seeing as its all sorta corroded together, annd no amount of cleaning and wd40 has made it move.
also in the picture the reason for it not wanting to start, is down to where the screwdriver is, im using that as a connection between that bit that connects to the black wire, seeing as its came apart too.

heres a close up:

where can i get these parts from as an exact replacement ? or could i just use one of these, and stick both wires in the end of it ?
