changing cam belt

Car  clio 172 cup
should i trust an independant garage to do this? (not renault)
been quoted £240 labour + parts

does the engine mount need to be removed?

i usualy do everything myself to my other cars but this space looks tight.

what needs to be removed to access the cam belt thanks.

not bad, a little steep maybe, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ASK if they have the renault locking tools, if they haven't, walk away and go to a specialist

Ok thank you, most garages should have the proper locking tools espicialy if it's for changing cambelts etc is it to lock the engine to tighten the pullys? Thanks

IIRC the locking tools are specific to the RenaultSport clios.

i would actually say to the garage can you show me them because iam not taking any chances it sat that poing youl find out they wont have them ot they will spin you a long story.

I took my 172 to an independant to do the belt. They seemed confident in the job until they actually strarted on it, where they then found the job a lot harder than they expected.
Thankfully, they just ran me to say they couldn't do it. Meant I had to go to Renault for them to do the job, which was another £200 in labour, but at least I knew it was done properly.

I may be on my own here, but for really important stuff like Cam-belts, I'd rather the 'proper' mechanics deal with it, just for peace of mind I guess. Not to disrespect the many top-notch spanner-monkeys in the independants naiton-wide of course!
