changing dog bone

hiya guys ive just changed my ph1 172 dog bone mount a few weeks ago, and it temporarily cured the knocking problem i had in 1st and 2nd when lifting off or in traffic, but its come back over the last few days.

the part i used was a euro car part mount and am wondering that it must b shite quality. the mount k tec use is a twisted dog bone mount so im jus wondering can this be used on a ph1?

the guys that changed my clutch said the gear box mount seems fine so i have no idea what it could be?i doubt that the dog bone is shagged already??

fook, got any ideas then mate?car is booked in for rentech in mid jan, just wondering if i can get anything sorted before then as its annoying the hell out of me!

sounds like a serious knock from directly under the front of the car under the drivers footwell (well i can feel the vibrations from upto there!)

possibly heatshield or exhaust neone?

mike says it could be the gearbox but i just had the clutch dun (was making noise before the clutch job aswel) and the garage said the box was allgud or they wud have told me there was sumin wrong

right well after reading a ton of previous posts it looks like im going to change all of my engine mounts.

however, i dont really have a ren dealer near me but a euro car parts centre 2 mins away, would the quality of the parts be the same??

m8,.. try this first..

remove the engine cover.
undo the 4 bolts on the left hand mount
get a bar(big one)
jam it behind the back of the mount and rest it against the strut piller
****mind the AC pipes**** do not rest it against them
push the bar towars the rear of the car (moving the engine forward as far as it will possibly go)
nip all four bolts up nice and tight

JOB DONE!!

if you have a mrk1 172 then before doing the above guide.

jack the car up and secure it.
drop the front bolt of the new dog bone mount. (engine side)
see the black bracket attached to the gear box?
slacken the top bolt to finger tight its 13mm
then using a screwdriver or something to pivet the bottom of the black bracket forward to wards the front of the car (so the top of it leans to the back of the car)
it will only move 5mm or so should look like this \ lol.. keep pushing hard and tighten up the top nut nice and tight.
now with some force or a friend to bar the engine so you can line up the dog bone mount then re bolt that up.

then follow the above guide after this one

it will fix it

yes i have a mk1 172, superb write up there mate, will give it a go, just hope the weather gets a bit better!

lol only 230 miles away then.. if you drive down ill do it foc like but thats a long way

tbh its not that hard to do. pm if you get stuck ill give u my number

not far at all then lol!im gonna go to my garage tomorrow and print that guide out for them, no way am i getting under the car in this weather lol
