Changing Steering wheel to aftermarket option

  MKV Golf GTi (240bhp)
firstly is it a big problem removing the existing one with the air bag and everything?

how much protection does an airbag give you? is it a really important saftey feature or can it be lost?

how long would it take to swap the steering wheels?

Thanks

Duncan

i prefer airbag unless you are using the car mostly for track use.
head hits-}soft cushion or hard steering wheel. choice is yours

very true, but doesnt your seat belt stop you from hitting it? but yes you make a good point i suppose it boils down to is it a risk worth taking?

Considering you have a CUP... You have f-all safety features anyway! I'd stick with the drivers airbag!!

  182, SRT8, RS4, GT-R
Probably safer if you get an aftermarket wheel and bucket seat/harnesses. Hold you in nice and tight.

not 100% sure but im guesing your insurance would go up quite abit as it is an important safety feature

personally i would never change it, as i feel the airbag was put there for a reason

The only safer option is full cage bucket seat with proper mounts fro the belts.

The airbag is good seriously I'd always have it unless you've a much better system where it becomes usless ie Hans neck stuff, full cage, seat etc.

I would def change the steering wheel to an aftermarket one but before I do that im going to get a set of buckets and harness first because when I wrote off my type R at 120mph my buckets and my harness saved my life as my face didn't even touch the airbag when it came out...

  RS6+ & 40d MSport X5
hardcore chauster 120mph ma bmx could do that ha ha
u cumin out to play??:rasp:

It does to me because my pal crashed his bmw in to a wall and when the airbag cracked me across the face it cut my face open luckily there was no scaring on my pretty face :)

Different cars etc though. Air bags arn't there to injour you (after all why do you think they fit them there expensive etc) there a safety reature not having them IMO stupid unless you have some realy good alternative and not just harness.
