changing the clios sound?

  Fiesta ST2
Folks I was wondering what I can do to make the clio sound deeper.. Ive got a K&N on it and the standard exhaust I dont want an exhaust thats silly loud, I just want a nice "grrrr" from it. Today I was in traffic on my way to work (had only been driving for about 3 or 4 minutes) and I could see a fire engine coming in my mirrors so although the engine was cold I gave it a little to get out of the way of the fire engine, when I did this the car gave off such a deep growl I nearly had to clean up. Does anyone know what I can do to make the car sound deeper? Ive got a 1.2 Turbo Mk3 (p.s I know theres not much I can do to a 1.2 but im willing to give it ago!) cheers guys and gals!

IMHO what you are wanting is induction noise. You get this from nearly any induction kit. But you need to be aware that induction kit's like K&N and some pipercross DONT benifit from the car's cold air feed (CAF) which means the suck warmed air into the engine and reduce power.

Closed airboxes (BMC CDA is the best, Pipercross Viper) can use a CAF and so you won't loose power. A pipercross viper will give you the growl your after IMO. I think the particular growl your talking about happens on open throttle at low RPM. Your K&N will make the noise, but loose a bit of power

thanks for the reply guys! I had a more open panel filter (was an ITG) filter, but it sounded the same as standard, ive a cold air feed running to the K&N but its still going to suck in hot air I know yes but is there anything else I can get that will get me a bigger growl?

also @ cat171 ive only been driving for two or so year and as im in Northern Ireland the insurance is dear as anything, im 21 with 2 years NCB insurance is still £900 on the 1.2 tce and thats cheap! other places where asking me for about £3k! if I could insure a 172/182/197 I would but tbh im just thankful ive a car and im getting the experience :)

thanks again for the reply guys!

There's nothing wrong with your car at all man :)

I apprecaite that you want it to sound a bit 'beefier' obviously that's up to you. All I ever see near me is basic cars with loads of noise coming from them, I guess that they think that their back box which is all noise makes them sound like a ferrari ?
I'm NOT saying your car is basic at all etc, i'd personally leave it alone as you don't wanna look like a chav.

Enjoy it for what it is

i fitted a pipercross on my 1.2 and i quite like it, i know it does nothing for performance but i think sounds quite good, ive got a little video mate which might help, this is on a standard system

Isn't K-Tec working on a map for the 1.2 TCE? I know they have a Twingo with that engine, that is apparently quicker than people think... I'd certainly be looking at a custom remap - although with the Twingo an Clio have this engine now, I imagine somewhere will have a map out soon.

That'd totally be worth it I reckon! Then it'd be close to the pace of the RS one, especially when you factor in the extra torque. I'd get a little discreet boost gauge as well hehe :) I just like them, and also they're good for checking everything is workin ok with your turbo :)
