Changing the colour of a seat

I have a cobra Monaco in Blue.
It looks crap.
Because its only going in the track paxo, I don't want to pay for it re-covering or anything.

Has anyone ever dyed such a thing? I'm conscious of it coming out on my clothes though! It gets a bit hot in the little shed.
